Again, I can’t speak to the safety as it’s not my area, but my opinion is these are not likely to be quality steel, so I wouldn’t use them. If you’re having trouble with food sticking to your knife, do the chef thing where instead of keeping the knife straight up and down, tilt the back of the knife towards your dominant side so slices of whatever you’re cutting are encouraged to fall over thanks to the slight negative angle.

Depends on the coating. My brother is a knifemaker and a lot of his techniques, like ferric chloride etch etc is just about shaping the kind of beneficial rust that coats, protects, and aesthetically enhances the knife. “Rainbow” effects on alloy knives are the same thing - just thin-film interference from natural oxide coatings that usually are just invisible, but with the right thickness produce beautiful colors.

If blackened by these techniques, even fancy all-black and “Damascus” (aka pattern-welded steel) are completely safe! I can’t comment on ceramic or adhered coatings because we don’t use them, and it’s quite a different branch of the sciences we’re experienced in.

Edit: my other brother is a metallurgist, and I make wind instruments, so we have become experts in occupational, food, and chemical safety.

It’s one thing to have the content of OTHERS A/B tested (although exceptionally annoying to see the same fucking YouTube video under three different thumbnail/title combos. It’s quite another to change user-generated content without their knowledge or consent.

UX/UI changes that alter explicit user-generated content at a subreddit level? How would you like your comments to be rephrased or altered without your knowledge let alone the description of an entire subreddit?

I’ve had great results with my WARBL 2 - I made a vented adaptor to plug it into my Flemish pipes and it feels just like playing a real instrument. Yeah! Spore-formers are a real pain in the ass. The good news is that unless your stomach is newborn or compromised, your stomach acid and enzymes will kill the spores. This might be part of why, prior to pressure canning, relatively few people died of botulism as the convention was to fully reheat canned goods, thus destroying the toxin.

I used to work sterility line at a surgical tools factory, and the stuff I learned there was enough to put me off potlucks and shellfish for life.

Minor clarification for other folks reading - certain bacteria like vibrio produce poisonous compounds called endotoxin, which requires extreme temperatures or chemical conditions to destroy. So, while ordinary cooking will easily kill the bacteria, the endotoxin hangs around unless heated far beyond boiling temp, or treated with bleach/hydroxide solution.

This is why it’s so dangerous - food and equipment considered “safe” after normal cleaning can still cause serious harm if they are facilitating the transfer of enough accumulated endotoxin.
