𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻! ⚡As we head into World Energy Day, this is a timely reminder that New Zealand’s electricity system is a team effort. Each plays a role in keeping the lights on and supporting our transition to a more renewable future. At Mercury, we’re proud to be part of that mix - we currently have three major renewable generation developments, totalling $1 billion investment, while working alongside others across the sector to power Aotearoa.Because it takes all of us.
With World Energy Day coming up tomorrow, our friend Volt (the animation!) is back and this time he’s sharing his knowledge on New Zealand’s electricity mix. As he says in the video, whether it’s wind, sun, gas, hydro or other fuel sources, we need them all! #AotearoaNewZealand #electricity #powerlines #solar #renewableenergy #transpowernz #STEM
New Zealand’s energy system is changing – and understanding that change has never been more important. That’s why Mercury is proud to support Powering Change, an industry-led platform helping to build a clearer, more transparent picture of how our energy system works today and what’s involved as Aotearoa transitions to a lower-emissions future.Powering Change brings together generators, retailers, networks and industry groups to explain, in practical terms: ⚡ how energy is made, moved, stored and used ⚡ why system resilience matters as demand changes ⚡ what’s happening across the country to support the transition, including new renewable projectsThe updated website includes fresh data and insights, explainers, and an interactive map showing renewable developments underway across New Zealand – including projects Mercury is delivering. As a member of Powering Change, Mercury has played a key role in its initiation and development. We encourage anyone interested in New Zealand’s energy future to explore it. Follow the link in comments to visit Powering Change.#PoweringChange#EnergyTransition#RenewableEnergy
⚡ Powering up more renewable energy at Ngā Tamariki. Our new fifth generation unit at Ngā Tamariki Geothermal Station has begun delivering electricity to the grid. Once fully commissioned, the expansion will add 46MW of renewable baseload generation - enough to power the equivalent of around 55,000 more homes each year.Ngā Tamariki expansion is one of three major renewable generation projects we currently have under development as part of our $1 billion current investment in New Zealand’s energy future.Read more and watch a video – link in the comments.#RenewableEnergy#Geothermal#EnergyTransition#Infrastructure#NewZealand
A significant milestone for Mercury and New Zealand’s renewable energy system. We’re proud of the team, contractors and partners who made this possible.
Our new fifth generation unit at the Ngā Tamariki Geothermal Station is now delivering electricity to the grid, strengthening New Zealand’s renewable baseload supply. The $220 million Ngā Tamariki expansion project is on track to be fully commissioned by March and will lift the station’s capacity to132MW and add around 390GWh of renewable generation each year. The increase is the equivalent of powering around 55,000 homes. The Ngā Tamariki expansion is one of three major renewable generation developments, totalling $1 billion investment,Mercury NZ has underway. A big thank you to our team, contractors, and partners - includingTauhara North No.2 Trust and mana whenua Ngāti Tahu Ngāti Whaoa - for the collaboration and commitment that has made this possible.
The Kaiwaikawe Wind Farm has taken a tangible step toward reality, with the first turbine components arriving in New Zealand. 🌬️⚡Last week, 55 tower sections and six blades were delivered to Northport aboard the general cargo vessel BBC Rhine, arriving from Taicang, China. Further shipments are scheduled across January and February, with transport from Northport to the Kaiwaikawe site expected to begin in February. 🚢Once completed, this $287m wind farm will feature the country’s tallest wind turbines and generate 221GWh of renewable energy each year – the equivalent of enough to power about 27,000 homes. Kaiwaikawe represents another step forward in strengthening New Zealand’s renewable generation capacity and building a resilient, low-emissions energy system for the future. 🌱Vestas |ElectroNet Group |Higgins |Northpower |Pāmu Farms of New Zealand#RenewableEnergy#Sustainability#Kaiwaikawe#EnergyTransition#MercuryNZ
A great milestone for Kaiwaikawe Wind Farm and a strong signal of the progress underway.
Just a couple of months after turbine components began arriving on site at stage two of our Kaiwera Downs Wind Farm, near Gore, another milestone has been reached at the other end of the country. Components for the Kaiwaikawe Wind Farm, near Dargaville have arrived in NZ, marking the start of the next phase of construction. This milestone represents another step forward in building New Zealand’s renewable generation capacity. Once complete, the $287m wind farm at Kaiwaikawe will feature the country’s tallest wind turbines and generate 221GWh of renewable energy each year – the equivalent of enough to power about 27,000 homes. Thanks to our people and toVestas,ElectroNet Group,Higgins,Northpower andPāmu Farms of New Zealand who have helped bring the project to this point.
Awesome to see stage 2 of our Kaiwera Downs Wind Farm really coming together. Great teamwork across Mercury,Vestas andElectroNet Group to get this project moving and bring more renewable energy to the grid.
The start of 2026 has already seen strong progress at Kaiwera Downs Stage 2 (KD2) it’s really starting to take shape. Pictured is the first turbine’s journey from no blades, to one, two, and now all three in place! The team has also been busy onsite carrying out testing. Pictured are ElectroNet trainee Power Systems Technician Matthew and Assistant Engineer Helen, who’ve been working on SCADA testing this week alongside a Vestas SCADA Engineer andMercury NZ’s Automation Systems Engineer. We’ve been leading the design, construction, and commissioning of the transmission lines, substation, and wind turbine reticulation for this exciting project, all critical for connecting the expanded Kaiwera Downs Wind Farm to the grid. Once completed, the total capacity of Kaiwera Downs will reach 198 MW, making Kaiwera Downs the second-largest wind farm in New Zealand.

🎄𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗕𝘂𝘇𝘇 🎄As we wrap up the year, we’re celebrating the festive spirit across the communities where we live, work, and generate renewable energy. From Dargaville in the Far North to Gore and Balclutha in the South, our teams have supported events that bring people together at this special time of year.We were especially inspired by the community-led mahi in Ōtara, where local champions worked to light up the neighbourhood. To help make this the 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘺𝘦𝘵, Mercury donated 𝟯𝟬𝟬 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝘅𝗲𝘀, offered customers the chance to get involved through bill credits, and provided Samsung spot prizes. ✨🎁At Starship Children’s Hospital, we sponsored the Christmas decorations, face painters, and prizes for ‘Dress The Ward’. Some of our people also put their hearts into the season, sewing 300 Christmas stockings and filling them with gifts for children spending their holidays in care. 🎅🧵💛A huge thank you to every community we’ve partnered with this year, and to our Mercury team for bringing so much energy to the season.Wishing everyone a safe, happy, and bright festive season.𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗶 𝗞𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗵𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗿𝘆. 🎄💛⚡#MeriKirihimete#CommunityEnergy#TeamMercury#GivingBack#RenewableEnergy#NZCommunities#Christmas2025
