Watering can
Thewatering can is a gardening tool, first introduced inAnimal Crossing: Wild World and appearing in all subsequent games. It is used to waterflowers in order to prevent them from wilting and dying, and can restore wilting plants to full bloom.
Usage[edit]
A watering can can be used to water the ground in the spot directly below the player. Watering flowers will prevent them from wilting or dying, and restore wilted plants the very next day. Watering the ground or any other item will simply have no effect. Watering flowers can promote the growth of new flowers throughhybridization. InAnimal Crossing: New Leaf andAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, flowers that have been watered will show droplets of water falling to the ground, and will sparkle throughout the day to indicate that they do not need further watering.
The watering can is crucial to gaining and maintaining a perfect townenvironment, as it keeps flowers thriving. With theBeautiful Town ordinance inNew Leaf, the watering can is made redundant as flowers will never wilt and have increased chances of producing hybrid flowers.
More advanced versions of the watering can that have unique effects can be obtained, though their effects differ between the games. InCity Folk, the silver can is able to revive redturnips that are wilting, and can increase the chances of growing hybrid flowers andmoney trees. In all appearances, reviving wilting black roses with the golden can will turn them into golden roses. InNew Leaf, both watering cans have increased range from the standard variant.
Villagers can be seen carrying watering cans and using them to water flowers. InNew Horizons, villagers with the naturehobby can be seen walking around and watering multiple flowers. Other villagers can only water one flower at a time. Gifting a watering can to a villager will replace thewatering can item as their default watering can.

Watering cans inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons will break after a specific amount of uses. Each use of the watering can on dry flowers will reduce a watering can's durability, and watering ground with no flowers will reduce durability by 1/20 of the usual rate. A watering can's durability is not reduced when watering flowers that have already been watered. Theflimsy watering can can only water one tile at a time, while every other watering can water multiple tiles.
