Treasure hunts are activities in theAnimal Crossing series initiated byvillagers. During a treasure hunt, a villager will bury an item in a random location and the player must find it by digging it up. Treasure hunts appear inAnimal Crossing andAnimal Crossing: New Horizons.

InDoubutsu no Mori,Doubutsu no Mori+,Animal Crossing, andDoubutsu no Mori e+, villagers will occasionally post on thebulletin board that they have buried an item in a specificacre. The buried item has a 33% chance of being either an item fromCrazy Redd's, an item from thelottery, or aPitfall. The item will remain in town forever until it is dug up.

Treasure hunts occur at random, and there is a minimum gap of three days between hunts.

InAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, villagers may ask the player to partake in a treasure hunt, initiating a timed minigame where the player begins in theplaza and must find a buried present on the island. If the player digs up the present and returns it to the villager within the time limit, they will unwrap it and give the player the item inside.
