Theranchu goldfish is a rarefish in theAnimal Crossing series introduced inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons. It can be found inponds as a small shadow throughout the year, though only between the hours of 9 AM to 4 PM.

It also appears inAnimal Crossing: Pocket Camp as an event fish that was available duringFishing Tourney: Elegant Aquarium inAugust 2020 and Fishing Tourney: Foliage inSeptember 2021.

The Ranchu, (Japanese: Katakana: ランチュウ; Kanji: 蘭鋳, 蘭虫 or 卵虫, literally "Dutch worm") is a hooded variety of fancy goldfish developed in Japan. It is referred to as the "king of goldfish" by the Japanese.

The modern-day ranchu is a Japanese development of the lionhead. They are the direct outcome of crossbreeding experiments of different Chinese lionhead specimens.More information on this topic is available atWikipedia.
