Papi is alazyhorsevillager in theAnimal Crossing series. He first appeared inAnimal Crossing: New Leaf and has appeared in all subsequent games. Despite being a horse, his appearance is based on theokapi, an animal closely related to giraffes. His English and Japanese names both reference this.

InNew Horizons, Papi has the naturehobby and may be found reading a book pertaining to an item he is studying, which can be either flowers, bugs, fish, or fossils.

Papi, being modeled after an okapi, is a brown horse with a blackish brown mane and tail. His arms and legs are white with black stripes. His muzzle is pink and the inside of his ears are blue. He has a white face with a red-brown hair whorl as opposed to the ossicones typical of a male okapi. His eyes are simple black ovals.

As alazy villager, Papi has a relaxed, laid-back lifestyle and will appear friendly toward the player. He often talks about food and is humorous or naïve during conversations. During conversations with other villagers, he generally gets along well withpeppy,smug, andcranky villagers, whilesnooty andjock villagers may not get along with him due to their conflicting lifestyles. InNew Horizons, Papi goes to sleep at 11 PM and wakes up at 8 AM.

InAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, if Papi is one of the villagers who moved in during the main storyline after the villager house development quest, his house will have a combination of non-craftable furniture, plus items crafted by players during the island development storyline, primarily from theLog Series and applicable native fruit sets.
