AOne Day Sale is anevent in everyfirst-generationAnimal Crossing game that can occur on any day. It shares the same schedule as the visitorsGracie,Katrina,Redd,Saharah, andWendell. These five visitors and the One Day Sale are all classified internally as "special events", and one of the six is chosen every two to seven days.[nb 1] Because of this, a One Day Sale cannot occur while one of these visitors is in town. The day before the event,Tom Nook sends theplayer aletter informing them of the sale. The sale lasts one hour and can begin anytime between 12 PM and 7 PM.
On the day of the sale,Tom Nook's store follows a special schedule, operating normally most of the day but closing for one hour before and after the sale. For example, if the sale runs from 3 PM to 4 PM, the store will be open until 2 PM, closed from 2 to 3 PM, open for the sale until 4 PM, closed from 4 to 5 PM, and open again for the remainder of the day.
During the sale, Tom Nook gives the player a freeballoon beginning inDoubutsu no Mori+. He also has one or two rare items for sale, depending on the size of the store. InDoubutsu no Mori,Doubutsu no Mori+, andAnimal Crossing the actual store shelves are empty, but inDoubutsu no Mori e+, they stock variousflooring,wallpaper, andumbrellas, in addition to festivehandheld items including balloons,pinwheels,fans andparty poppers.
