Page actions

NookipediaProposals allow the community to vote on sitewide changes that would affect a large number of pages or users. This process is not a replacement for community-wide input (see:The Roost) or talk page discussion. Rather, it takes the final product of those discussions (in the form of a proposal) and puts them to a vote.

Rules[edit]

  • Proposals areonly necessary for changes that would affect a large number of pages or users. Some examples: rules/policy changes, adding/removing namespaces, making major modifications to/replacing templates that affect 1000+ pages.
  • Proposals are for voting on fully worked out ideas. They should be a binary yes/no choice and not have any yet-to-be-determined components: no 'option a, b, or c'. Proposals may be submitted without prior public comment or feedback, but should not receive major edits or changes once voting has started. If a proposal does not follow these rules or is otherwise deemed unfit, it may be vetoed at the discretion of aBureaucrat.
  • Proposals can only be submitted and voted upon by registered users. Comments or votes from unregistered users will be removed immediately. Furthermore, all votes or comments must have a signature attached (~~~~). Users are not allowed to vote on their own proposal, but may respond to comments.
  • Proposals will be open for seven days. This voting deadline can be extended upon request, at the discretion of a Bureaucrat.
  • At the end of the voting period, if the proposal has support from a two-thirds majority of voters and five total votes it will be considered successful. A Bureaucrat will then officially close the proposal, and either enact it themselves, or coordinate with other staff members to make sure the proposal is completed.
    • If the proposal does not have five votes at the end of the voting period, the voting period will be extended for seven days.
  • Once a proposal has been enacted, thestaff member responsible will make a note here and move the proposal to theArchives.

How to make a proposal[edit]

All proposals must be made using thetemplate provided below, posted under the "Current Proposals" heading:

{{proposal| title       = A short, one-sentence description of the proposal.| description = Additional proposal details/explanation.| comments    = User commentary on proposal.| votes       = User votes on proposal: {{Support}} or {{Oppose}} + signature (~~~~).}}

Proposal:Villager forin name rederects
All of the villagers forin names should be a redirect to that villagers pageAQ (talk) 06:33, January 10, 2026 (EST)
Comments:
  • To clarify, do you mean "foreign" names? I'm slightly confused about what this proposal is trying to achieve. Also, please check your spelling!Drago(talk)Drago PC Villager Icon.png 13:08, January 10, 2026 (EST)
  • So i propose that all non english names of a villager are a rederect to that villagers pageAQ (talk) 13:39, January 10, 2026 (EST)
  • This isn't very feasible since a lot of villagers have names that overlap with different villagers in other languages. But we do have hatnotes in cases where they overlap with English. I don't think these redirects are necessary though since the villagers will still come up with search. The exception, something I had been thinking about myself, is perhaps doing so for Japanese names (where there is not conflict), as these are the original names of the characters and there is a fair amount of Japanese-only media.Chubby Bub (talk) 05:37, January 16, 2026 (EST)
  • I think that your idea is great ideaAQ (talk) 07:39, January 16, 2026 (EST)
  • I'm going to have to agree with Chubby Bub and oppose, because the overlaps make things difficult. At best, we'd end up with a lot of disambiguations. And it does feel like creating all these redirects will be a lot of work for little benefit. The Japanese-only idea sounds interesting, but it would need to be a new proposal.Drago(talk)Drago PC Villager Icon.png 12:31, January 16, 2026 (EST)
  • Ok so i will make a new proposal tomorrowAQ (talk) 12:53, January 16, 2026 (EST)
  • Just want to remind everyone that this wasa proposal I made back in 2022; while it did receive 6 support votes (half of which were from staff), it didn't really seem to go anywhere as no verdict was made by the time it was archived. Just to summarize a bit: The idea behind my proposal was to potentially benefit any of our readers who may be more familiar with a villager's non-English name and would search that name instead of their English name (for example, some users may know Pigleg by his French name "Xavier" but not his English name). Even when bringing up the GermanAnimal Crossing wiki (which I believe was our only non-EnglishAnimal Crossing wiki affiliate at the time), one comment argued there would still be at least a few non-English readers who would instead use Nookipedia anyway, meaning redirects of the German names weren't entirely out of the question. While I'm still not opposed to this idea, both Chubby and Drago do bring up valid points, so I'm gonna remain neutral for now.Snapping Turtle NH Icon.pngTheJacketedTerrapinSoft-Shelled Turtle NH Icon.png 19:57, January 16, 2026 (EST)
  • While Chubby Bub and Drago brought up valid concerns about name overlap, we do have things in place currently for those situations. For villagers who share a foreign name with another's English name, we have a hatnote like you can see at the top ofBob. For villagers who share names in different languages but no English villager has that name, we already have a few disambiguation pages likeIris andJulie. For the former, I think we pretty much have all of those noted already, and for the latter, I can't imagine there would be too many of those disambiguations anyway. As for the straight redirects (i.e. foreign-language names that do not conflict with any other name), I don't see any harm in having them. Like Terrapin said, users who primarily speak another language but still use Nookipedia as a resource may have an easier time finding what they're looking for if they can just look up villagers by the name their version of the game calls them. While you could find them with a search (for example, searching "Jens"—Bob's German name—gives results related to Bob), it's not as neat and seamless as a simple redirect or even a disambiguation page.

Proposal:Only show a villager's clothing from the latest game they appear in
I'm trying to justify a reason as to why we need to display every article of clothing that a villager has worn throughout the serieson the main villager infobox. I think while it's good to track what villager wears what...we also now have dedicated villager infoboxes per each section of the game that details what default clothing they wear now.

And while I could argue its removal, I think it's better to instead relegate that section towards showing the clothing from the villager's latest appearance. So someone likeAnalog, whose last appearance wasDoubutsu no Mori e+, should have their article of clothingspring shirt, while someone likeChabwick who was reintroduced inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons should only havenine-ball tee as their default clothing. --PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 13:54, January 14, 2026 (EST)

Comments:
  • Sounds good to me. The top infobox should be a short overview of the character, and the majority of readers are going to be looking for info on the latest game. As Pancham mentioned, we now have the infoboxes per-game so readers can easily get the details for a particular game (which is a better experience than trying to decipher the multiple clothings in the top infobox).~SuperHamsterTalkContribs 14:42, January 14, 2026 (EST)
  • While we do also have per-game villager infoboxes, I very much don't like the idea of only having data for the newest game in the main one. At the very least,if we go that route, it should be indicated that's the case- but it may not be readily apparent to unfamiliar users where to find the information for other games. But in any case, I don't think it's bad to include the data for other games in the infobox. To me, it feels incomplete without it, and it really doesn't take up that much space. The infobox represents the entire page, and the entire page covers all appearances. I see it as misleading and biased to exclude them. (Note also that this would be a good use case for the more intuitive "appearance notes" I suggested on the Discord a while ago, which would eliminate the "deciphering" mentioned, though that's another conversation... one I should probably revive in some manner.)Chubby Bub (talk) 05:37, January 16, 2026 (EST)
  • While I initially supported this proposal, I now agree with Dorsal Axe's suggestion below. I think the best solution would be to do what we did with the bug and fish pages, which is remove all game-specific info from the main infobox entirely, with maybe the exception of things that are (mostly) unchanged between games like birthdays and personalities. Of course, that would need to be its own proposal.AlexBot2004 (Talk) 21:45, January 16, 2026 (EST)
    • Can you elaborate more on what could stay on the main infobox exactly? --PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 16:49, January 21, 2026 (EST)
      • I would definitely remove the clothing and umbrella fields. But I think the other fields are consistent enough and core enough to the characters to keep in the lead infobox (even factoring in some exceptions where this has changed between games). I suppose this would be up for debate though. --Shark HHD Icon.pngDorsal Axe(talk) 17:20, January 21, 2026 (EST)

Proposal:Manga appearances
I think every villager who appears in a manga series should have a small part on their page that says what series, book number/title, and show a good picture of them from the manga. The manga really shows a more fleshed out version of the characters and the art of them is super cute. The acnh manga has small bios of the villagers that appear as well and that could be a nice addition. Also forgive me if I'm doing this wrong this is my first edit besides my user page.𝒜𝓁𝓎𝓈𝓈𝒶 𝐿𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁𝒶𝒸𝑒 (talk) 14:06, February 6, 2026 (EST)
