Artwork of a player holding a net inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons

Thenet is a tool used to catchinsects as well as arachnids and crustaceans, which can be found all aroundtown. Catching and donating insects is required to complete themuseum's collection. All insects that are caught with a net are recorded in theplayer's encyclopedia.

Flick also carries a net named "Bügnir," a black net with spikes.

Usage[edit]

A player holding the net in the water inNew Leaf

Using the net will cause it to swing in front of the player. If the net strikes an insect, the player will successfully catch it. Striking flowers will cause the petals to fly, though it does no actual damage to them. Striking avillager three times with a net will result in the villager simultaneously complaining and becoming angry or sad, incurring afriendship penalty. The player can also hit the net on a fish shadow and it will swim away.

InAnimal Crossing,Doubutsu no Mori,Doubutsu no Mori e+,New Leaf, andNew Horizons, the player can hold the "A" button with a net to move very slowly, and when the button is released, they will swing the net.

More advanced versions of the net can also be obtained. The silver net and golden net are larger than the standard net, increasing their range and making it much easier to catch insects.

InAnimal Crossing: New Leaf andAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, villagers will occasionally attempt to catch insects, although they will never actually catch anything. Additionally, inNew Horizons, gifting a net to a villager will replace thenet item as their default net.

InNew Horizons[edit]

Nets inNew Horizons will break after a specific amount of uses. Making a successful catch with a net, whether that is an insect, aWisp Spirit Piece, aCherry-Blossom Petal,Maple Leaf, orsnowflake, will reduce its durability. A net's durability is not reduced when swinging the net or failing to catch anything.
