Knox is acranky chicken villager in theAnimal Crossing series. He first appeared inAnimal Crossing: City Folk and has appeared in all subsequent games. He is the only cranky chicken in the series. He appears to be based on a medieval knight, wearing a helmet and acavalier shirt, and having a medieval-themedhouse inAnimal Crossing: City Folk andAnimal Crossing: New Leaf. His name may come fromFort Knox, an American military base which houses gold, hence his gold helmet. He shares his catchphrase with another chicken villager,Betty.

Knox is established to work together withSterling in Knox's profile on the official Japanese website forAnimal Crossing: City Folk.^[1] Additionally, Knox and Sterling'sNew Horizonsphotos are counterparts to each other, containing mirrored poses both displayed against arustic-stone wall. Their relationship is hinted at with their similar Japanese names being counterparts to each other.

InNew Horizons, Knox has the educationhobby and can be seen wearingrimmed glasses, reading a novel while outside, and using a magnifying glass when near certain objects.

Knox is a gray chicken who is dressed as a knight from medieval times. He is one of the few villagers that wear headgear; in this case, a solid gold helmet. His black eyes are halfway covered by his helmet. He has an appearance similar to Sterling, who also has a knight-like outfit.

Knox is a cranky villager, making him seem quite bitter, but can come across as humorous due to his insulting speech. Knox will belittle and appear insensitive to the player when first interacted with, but eventually will warm up to them when befriended, though he will still be insulting in some cases. Due to his bitter behavior, he will be annoyed bypeppy villagers and will offendnormal andbig sister villagers, though he admireslazy villagers and will get along fine withsnooty and other cranky villagers.
