Kangaroos are a species ofvillager in theAnimal Crossing series. All female kangaroos have pouches with ajoey inside, making them one of the two first species to have a significant trait difference between male and female of the same species, along with thedeer. The joeys in their pouches will mimic their mother's emotions (mad, sad, etc.) and blink at the exact same time, though they lack mouths. Notably, the shirts of female kangaroos cover their entire torso and abdomen, including the pouch, but the shirts of male kangaroos stop partway down their stomachs. Most of the female kangaroos' initial catchphrases relate to their baby. For example,Kitt's initial catchphrase is "child," andMathilda's is "wee baby."
There are eleven kangaroo villagers, one of which is anislander. Nine are female and two are male, making it a predominantly female species. Of these, three arenormal, three aresnooty, two arepeppy, and one isbig sister, though was previously snooty, while both males arecranky. There are currently nolazy,jock, orsmug kangaroos, making it the only species (discounting species with only female villagers) in theAnimal Crossing series to never have a jock villager. There are also no peppy kangaroos inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons.
Valise,Koharu, andMarcy, the latter two being the only peppy kangaroos, have not reappeared sinceDoubutsu no Mori e+. All of the kangaroos who appear inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons also appear inAnimal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
InAnimal Crossing,Animal Crossing: Wild World, andAnimal Crossing: City Folk, kangaroos cannot be one of thestarting villagers in theplayer'stown.
