Hairstyle
Beginning inAnimal Crossing: Wild World, theplayer has the option to change theirhairstyle andhair color. Prior toAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, it is done atHarriet's barber shop,Shampoodle, and inNew Horizons, it is done by the player themself. In games where visiting Shampoodle is required to change the player's hairstyle, the answers to Harriet's questions will determine which hairstyle and color is received.
Players can also wearwigs in order to access additional hairstyles. While technically considered a type ofheadwear, wigs will match the player's current hair color.
Appearances[edit]
InAnimal Crossing[edit]
InAnimal Crossing, the player's hair cannot be changed; there is only one style per gender, and its color is determined byRover's questions at the beginning of the game. The male player's hairstyle has little to no visible hair from under his hat, while the female player's hairstyle features a long outwards flick on either side.
InWild World[edit]
The player's hairstyle inAnimal Crossing: Wild World is determined by their answers toKapp'n's questions at the beginning of the game and can be changed atShampoodle for 3,000 Bells once it is opened. There are a total of sixteen hairstyles, with eight for females and eight for males. Once the player has hair styled at least 16 times,Harriet will allow them to choose hairstyles of the opposite gender.
InCity Folk[edit]
Like inWild World, the player's hairstyle inAnimal Crossing: City Folk is determined by their answers toKapp'n's questions at the beginning of the game and can be changed atShampoodle for 3,000 Bells. There are four new hairstyles for each gender, making for a total of twelve. Once the player has had their hair styled 15 times,Harriet will allow them to choose hairstyles of the opposite gender. Additionally, bed head, a messy hairstyle that appears when the player has not played for at least 15 days, is introduced. Bed hair cannot be fixed automatically; the only way to recover their previous hairstyle is to request it again at Shampoodle.
InNew Leaf[edit]
The player's hairstyle inAnimal Crossing: New Leaf is determined by their answers toRover's questions at the beginning of the game and can be changed atShampoodle for 3,000 Bells once it is opened. There are a total of 32 hairstyles, with 16 for females and 16 for males. Once the player has had their hair styled 15 times,Harriet will allow them to choose hairstyles of the opposite gender. Bed head returns fromCity Folk and acts the same.

InNew Horizons[edit]
The player's hairstyle inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons is selected from a list at the beginning of the game and can be customized at any time by interacting with a mirror or vanity. Additionally, hair is no longer restricted by gender.
At the beginning of the game, eight hairstyles and eight hair colors are available. Six hairstyles are unlocked by interacting with a vanity for the first time. Further new hairstyles can be unlocked from packs that can be purchased from theNook Miles Redemption:Top 6 Stylish Hairstyles,Top 8 Cool Hairstyles, andTop 8 Pop Hairstyles, as well asTop 8 Stylish Hair Colors for eight additional hair colors. Bed head now requires a month of inactivity to occur, and the player automatically "fixes" it after leaving their house, reverting to their previous hairstyle. This also unlocks the option to use bed head as a proper hairstyle.
The 1.6.0Free Winter Update added a new hairstyle pack,Top 6 Stylish Hairstyles, which offers six new hairstyles, including the option to be bald for the first time.
The2.0 Update addsTop 4 Fab Hairstyles, which can be redeemed at the Nook Stop. Seven more hairstyles can be earned by speaking toHarriet at Harv's Island once a day. This makes for a total of 48 hairstyles inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, including bed head.
InHappy Home Designer[edit]
InAnimal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, the player's hairstyle can be customized at the beginning of the game. They can freely change their hair afterwards upon unlocking the Styling Machine.
InPocket Camp[edit]
InAnimal Crossing: Pocket Camp, the player is able to customize their hair in the tutorial and in the Settings menu. Additional hairstyles and colors were added in version 1.4.2 on March 26, 2021.[1]
