Agroup, also known as aprobability group,^[1] is a value assigned to some items in thefirst-generationAnimal Crossing games,Wild World,City Folk, andNew Leaf that determines their rarity in a specifictown. In the first-generation games andWild World,furniture,tops,wallpapers,carpets, andstationery fromTom Nook's store or theAble Sisters are assigned a group of A, B, or C, and in each town, one of the groups is common, one is uncommon, and one is rare. InNew Leaf, furniture, wallpapers, carpets, and stationery fromTimmy and Tommy's store are assigned a group of A, B, C, or D, and in each town, one of the groups is common, one is uncommon, one is rare, and one is very rare.

Which group is common, uncommon, rare, or very rare is assigned upon town creation, and it is different for each type of item. For example, Group A furniture may be common in a town, but Group A clothing may be rare in the same town.

Additionally, some sources only contain items of a specific rarity.

Below is a table of the chances to obtain an item from a certain group, for sources that can give items from all groups. Having high itemluck, throughfêng shui orKatrina, increases the chances of uncommon and rare items appearing, evening out the odds.

• TheLost & Found only contains items from the town's common group.
• The clothing received byGracie if the player fails to fully wash her car is always from the town's common group.
• Balloons only contain items from the town's rare group.
