Groundhog Day is an event in theAnimal Crossing series that occurs onFebruary 2. InAnimal Crossing: City Folk andAnimal Crossing: New Leaf, it only occurs in the North American versions.

Appearances[edit]

InAnimal Crossing[edit]

On Groundhog Day inAnimal Crossing, Tortimer appears on a podium in front of thewishing well beginning at 7 AM, while four villagers stand by in anticipation ofMr. Resetti's appearance. At 8 AM, Resetti reluctantly appears as the "groundhog" and announces either thatspring is coming early, or thatwinter will continue for six more weeks. Resetti's prediction has no actual effect on the game's seasons; the snow always melts on February 25 and spring begins on March 1.

Beginning at 9 AM, Tortimer will give the player one of three models based on different types offlowers—thecosmos model,pansy model, ortulip model—each of which having three color variations, for a total of nine items. Only one flower model can be obtained per player.

InWild World[edit]

On Groundhog Day inAnimal Crossing: Wild World, the player receives a letter from Mom asking if the groundhog showed up in their town.

InCity Folk[edit]

In North American towns inAnimal Crossing: City Folk, Tortimer appears outsidetown hall on Groundhog Day. If spoken to he will give the player aResetti model.

InNew Leaf[edit]

In North American towns inAnimal Crossing: New Leaf,Isabelle appears in theevent plaza between 6 AM and midnight on Groundhog Day. If spoken to she will give the player aResetti model. There is also a cardboard cutout in the plaza, where the player can poke their head and stand beside Resetti.

InNew Horizons[edit]

Although Groundhog Day does not appear inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons as a standard event, it appears as aNook Shopping seasonal event beginning in the 1.7.0Free Update. From January 25 to February 2, the player can purchase theResetti model fromNook Shopping.

Inamiibo Festival[edit]

In the North American version ofAnimal Crossing: amiibo Festival, Groundhog Day appears as a minor event in theBoard Game mode, with scenarios based on the event playing when spaces are landed on.
