Thegolden stag[nb 1] is a rare beetle that is tied with thehorned hercules and thegiraffe stag at 12,000Bells as the most expensiveinsect in the game. Its first appearance is inAnimal Crossing: City Folk. It is rare, and it can be found only onpalm trees from mid to latesummer. It can be caught if the player approaches it as slowly as possible.

Donating to the museum[edit]
Upon the beetle's donation to themuseum,Blathers the curator will say the following:
InCity Folk[edit]
After donation, the golden stag can be found on the second tier of the insect section in the first enclosure, walking on the tree stump towards the back. Once the hercules beetle has been donated, both will fight on the stump - lifting one another up in the air then tipping each other over.
InNew Leaf[edit]
Upon donation to the museum, the golden stag can be found on the stump in the upper right room of the insect section. If the horned hercules is also donated, the two will be in a constant battle; the golden stag flipping the horned hercules with a punchy thud, then the hercules flipping the golden stag, and so on.
