TheChess Theme is afurniture theme that first appears inDoubutsu no Mori. It consists of of twelve chess piecefurniture items—six black and six white—and a matchingwallpaper andcarpet.

InAnimal Crossing: Wild World, the wallpaper and carpet were removed and the theme was split into two sets: the White Chess Set and the Black Chess Set. While the wallpaper and carpet returned inAnimal Crossing: City Folk and laterAnimal Crossing: New Leaf, the collection remained a set. InAnimal Crossing: New Leaf, the two sets were merged into thecustomizable Chess Set.
