TheCherry Blossom Festival (also known as theCherry Festival)[nb 1] is anevent in everyfirst-generationAnimal Crossing game. Leading up to and following the event, trees turn pink and cherry blossom petals fall from the sky. FromApril 5 to 7, a festival is held at the wishing well. Although the festival only appears in the first-generation games, the pink trees and falling cherry blossom petals still appear in all subsequent games in early April (October in the southern hemisphere inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons).
Appearances[edit]
InAnimal Crossing[edit]
In everyfirst-generationAnimal Crossing game, all regular and fruit trees bloom pink beginning on April 1, and cherry blossom petals fall from the sky beginning on April 5; both last until April 8. The Cherry Blossom Festival itself takes place from April 5 to April 7, where villagers gather around thewishing well to celebrate around tables (tatami mats inDoubutsu no Mori andDoubutsu no Mori+) full of food, and beginning inDoubutsu no Mori+, Tortimer appears and gives the player apink tree model when spoken to.
When the town's weather is that of cherry blossom leaves falling, the town's hourly music will use slightly different variants, similar to when it is snowing. During the Cherry Blossom Festival itself, a celebratory theme will play. The theme used inDoubutsu no Mori andDoubutsu no Mori+ was changed from a traditional Japanese theme to a more erratic waltz-like track forAnimal Crossing, which was kept inDoubutsu no Mori e+. The original theme was remixed into theK.K. Slider song "Spring Blossoms" beginning inDoubutsu no Mori e+.
In other games[edit]
In subsequent games, the festival is not specifically celebrated, but the town's tree leaves (except for cedar trees) will be replaced with pink cherry blossom petals in early April. InWild World, this lasts until the end of theFlower Fest on the second Monday of the month. InCity Folk, this takes place from April 1 to April 8, while it takes place during the first ten days of April in theNothern Hemisphere orOctober in theSouthern Hemisphere inNew Leaf andNew Horizons.
Additionally, inNew Leaf, theTown Tree's leaves will turn pink, with pink petals blowing across the town, and for the first time in the series, every fruit tree will be devoid of cherry blossom petals, their leaves remaining green.
InNew Horizons,cherry-blossom petals can be found floating around town; likesnowflakes inNew Leaf, they can be caught with a net, and like most materials inNew Horizons can be stacked within a single slot (with up to ten petals being stackable at once). Using DIY recipes obtained fromballoon presents, the player can use petals as materials to craftCherry Blossoms Series items.
In the nothern hemisphere, if the cherry blossom bloom overlaps withBunny Day and the day leadup to it (such as during the game's launch year of 2020 when Bunny Day lasted from April 1 to April 12),Bunny Day DIY recipes will coincide withcherry blossom DIY recipes. In the southern hemisphere, the cherry blossom bloom overlaps withHalloween, therefore, theHalloween DIY recipes will coincide withcherry blossom DIY recipes.
