It is played in the houses ofBettina,Gala, andGloria, who all debuted inAnimal Crossing: City Folk. The aircheck of this song can be obtained from one of these villagers after visiting their house by their favor.
InAnimal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise, "Animal City" is played in the houses ofBilly,Freya,Hornsby, andMerengue.

Prior to "Animal City" becoming a K.K. Slider song inNew Leaf, a version of the city music fromCity Folk with vocals by K.K. Slider appears on the soundtrack CDsMachi e Ikou yo Doubutsu no Mori ~Mori no Ongakukai~ andAnimal Crossing: Your Favorite Songs - Original Soundtrack under the name "Town Square (K.K. Live Version)". The track is identical to what would later be used inNew Leaf, except it is slightly faster and lower quality.

- In regards to the track included as a live performance on the soundtrack CD, composerKazumi Totaka said in an interview inNintendo DREAM Vol. 182 that he envisioned K.K. playing the song in the city square, sitting in front of the fountain. This is exactly what would be depicted on the album cover inNew Horizons.
