Anchovy is alazy bird villager in theAnimal Crossing series who appears in all games to date. His name is taken from theanchovy, a fish that certain birds eat. His catchphrase is the word "churp," an onomatopoeia for the noise birds make, and a burping sound.

Anchovy has a general fish theme, referencing his namesake. The chimneys of hisNew Leaf andHappy Home Designerhouses produce fish-shaped smoke plumes. Hisstar sign isPisces, which is symbolized by a fish. Additionally, hisNew Horizonsphoto displays him against themarine pop wall, which depicts a school ofanchovies, a direct reference to his namesake.

InNew Horizons, Anchovy has the playhobby and can run around with his arms extended at any time, rather than only outside Resident Services during a scripted activity with a group of villagers.

Appearance[edit]

Anchovy is a brown bird with a sharp, yellow bill and thick, black eyebrows. He has white on his chin and belly, and dark brown hair on his head. He has white stripes on his arms and tail, which resembles feathers, and ends in the same dark brown color as his hair. He is most likely based off of asmoky-brown woodpecker.

As alazy villager, Anchovy has a relaxed, laid-back lifestyle and will appear friendly toward the player. He often talks about food and is humorous or naïve during conversations. During conversations with other villagers, he generally gets along well withpeppy,smug, andcranky villagers, whilesnooty andjock villagers may not get along with him due to their conflicting lifestyles. InNew Horizons, Anchovy goes to sleep at 11 PM and wakes up at 8 AM.

House[edit]

In each game, Anchovy's house features a gaming theme, with each house containing multiple game machines. In thefirst-generation games, his house contains slot machines, which were changed into pinball machines fromAnimal Crossing: Wild World onward. InAnimal Crossing: New Leaf, two billiard tables and a dartboard were added to accompany the pinball machines. Although not as numerous as before, hisNew Horizons house still contains a pinball machine, a billiard table, and a dartboard, along with a foosball table.

InAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, if Anchovy is one of the villagers who moved in during the main storyline after the villager house development quest, his house will have a combination of non-craftable furniture, plus items crafted by players during the island development storyline, primarily from theLog Series and applicable native fruit sets. He cannot have his initial house interior unless he moves out of the player's island or theHappy Home Paradise DLC is purchased, in which either the player orIsabelle can reset the interior.
