Bradbury verhuisde in 1934 naarLos Angeles. Zijn eerste boek, de bundelDark Carnival, werd in 1947 uitgebracht.Fahrenheit 451 enThe Martian Chronicles worden tot zijn belangrijkste werken gerekend.

Bradbury heeft aan een aantalscenario's meegewerkt, waaronder die voor de filmsMoby Dick enKing of Kings (1961), beide geregisseerd doorJohn Huston. Hij schreef alle afleveringen van de sciencefictionserieThe Ray Bradbury Theater en een aantal verhalen voorThe Twilight Zone.

Bradbury overleed in juni 2012 op 91-jarige leeftijd.[15]
