Overview
Learn, exchange, grow, and serve. The U.S. Department of State offers many programs for non-U.S. citizens wishing to come to the U.S. for cultural, educational, or professional exchange. These programs are augmented by local opportunities in countries around that world that allow non-U.S. citizens to explore U.S. culture and the English language.
The Fulbright international exchange program is an initiative of the late Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas and is designed to facilitate mutual understanding between citizens of the United States and other countries of the world. Approved by Congress in 1946, this Fulbright offers fellows the opportunity to pursue master’s studies in U.S. higher education institutions and to take part in an unforgettable cultural experience. The program offers two years of academic study, concluding in a master’s degree conferred by a U.S. higher education institution. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of State, and is implemented by the International Institute of Education (IIE).

The United States supports international education and welcomes foreign students and exchange visitors. Before applying for a visa, students and exchange visitors must be accepted by their schools or program sponsors.

If you have a question about a visitor or tourist visa, you should contact the call center by calling 7877-7600 (Movistar) from Nicaragua or 703-745-5479 from the United States. The United States welcomes foreign citizens who come to the United States to study. Before applying for a visa, all student visa applicants are required to be accepted and approved by their school or program. Once accepted, educational institutions will provide each applicant the necessary approval documentation to be submitted when applying for a student visa.
