Colagrossi pulls up anchor for new life

Colagrossi pulls up anchor for new life By HAL BOEDEKER SENTINEL TELEVISION CRITIC Lisa Colagrossi isn't sure how she'll say goodbye to Central Florida on WKMGChannel 6's 5:30 newscast tonight. But she will be brief. "I'm a big marshmallow," the anchor said. "I don't want to start bawling on the air. It's been a great run." A turbulent one, too. In her six years at the station, WKMG has gone through two owners, three general managers and five news directors. "There certainly has been a lot of turnover and a lot of instability," she said. "You have to work through that. Maybe that's what I've learned: not to get distracted by what I can't control." It's her decision to leave the station. That wasn't the case with former co-anchor David Wittman, whose contract was not renewed. Colagrossi, 36, longs to be reunited with her husband, Todd Crawford, director of client programming for ESPN/ABC Sports in New York. They met in Central Florida while he worked for Disney here. They have lived apart for nearly a year as Colagrossi cared for their 14-month-old son, Davis, in College Park. The family will live in New York's Westchester County in an area that reminds Colagrossi of College Park. "That's what I told my husband, 'Find " College Park up there,' she said. "We're not too far from the Clintons, not that I'll be visiting.' She will do free-lance reporting for two New York stations. In her early years at WKMG, her long-form reporting won her several awards. "I think I can walk away feeling very proud of the strides David and I made as a team at 11," she said. "When I got here, if you u would have told us that one day we would beat [WFTV-]Channel 9 at 11, I would have asked you what drug you were WKMG-CHANNEL 6 Greener pastures. WKMG-Channel 16 anchor Lisa Colagrossi will move to New York to be reunited with her husband, Todd Crawford, director of client programming for ESPN/ABC Sports. taking. It's a much closer race now." WKMG placed second at 11 in the May sweeps, after WESH-Channel 2 but in front of WFTV. Colagrossi said Wittman was like a big brother to her. "We're both from Cleveland," she said. "He's the consummate professional, with a goofy sense of humor that makes him very endearing.' She said setbacks are inevitable in television news when anyone has been in the business as long as Wittman. "I think, in the long run, this will be a blessing in disguise for him," she said.
