Officers towered by The Great Khali
Today, officers from the QPS had the opportunity to catch up with wrestling royalty when they were towered by the impressive, The Great Khali, the world famous, Indian-born wrestler.
Inspector Michael Dowdy, Sergeant Jim Bellos and Police Liaison Officer Ricky Lashland, are all big supporters of the Indian community through their work in the QPS Cross Cultural Liaison Unit.
Measuring in at over two meters in height and just over 150kg, Dalip stood tall amongst the officers who admit to being fans of the wrestling champion.
Before making his wrestling debut in 2000, the Great Khali was an Indian Police Officer from the State of Punjab and said he still feels a special kinship with his brothers and sisters in uniform.
The team was surprised to hear that he’s still enlisted in the Punjabi Police Service and holds the rank of Inspector.
“It’s great to hear that the Queensland Police Service have a positive relationship with the Indian community,” he said.
“My brother is actively serving in the Police Service in Punjab.”
The WWE Superstar has also played roles in various Hollywood and Bollywood Films including appearances in the Longest Yard, Get Smart and MacGruber.
The Great Khali continues his tour across the country and thanks the Queensland Police Service for making him feel welcome in the river city.

The QPS acknowledges the First Nations – Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as the Traditional Owners of the lands throughout Australia, and their connection to country and community. We pay our respect to all Traditional Owners, and to their Elders past, present and emerging. We pay our respects to the First Nations’ ancestors of this land and their legacy. The foundations by these ancestors — our First Nations people — gives strength, inspiration and courage to current and future generations, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous.
