Cocotama are tiny gods born from the thoughts and feelings of objects that people use with great care. The fact that Cocotama wear part of the egg they hatch out of as underwear is proof that they are still apprentices. The Cocotama use a mysterious magic, and they train hard to be of use to humans and to become full gods. They live inside human houses and stealthily move around to help humans find things they have lost, although they make many mistakes.
I usually don't write reviews because I am not truly good at reviewing stuff but I will try my best as I can. I wanted to write one because this show (and the Cocotama franchise in general) is extremely underrated and really needed some love and no one has ever reviewed it.
Kamisama Minarai Himitsu no Cocotama (and the franchise in general) is one of the most adorable animes you will ever watch. As a slice of life, it combines drama, comedy and romance.
The story extremely relies on character development and a very strong cast as a lot of characters get a lot of interesting...development and most of their backstories were pretty good. I will provide some examples with the three main girls:
Kokoro, though a klutz at times, later develops into a caring and self-aware person as the series progresses.
Nozomi, though a strict but shy girl, later became better friends with Kokoro and cared about others as seen in one episode when she had to deal with Vivit (who is harmed after using forbidden magic). She is able to travel around the world with her parents when she left for America.
...and finally, Hikari later learns how not to give up with her special talents as a magician and the outcome of her development, she is now a skilled magician.
As would you expect from a slice of life anime, the show also deals with real life topics (e.g. where are topics of romance in regards to the relationship between Kokoro and Ichinose). As result, the show bleeds a lot of charm.
The visuals (in terms of characters and locations) are pretty nice and well-animated. One will remind of the visuals of Tamagotchi, Hamtaro and Jewelpet.
The messaging of preserving one's own stuff is better and this is evident in several episodes.
Let's not forget the sounds, the music is well-composed and even the sound effects were put in place at the right time. It is all thanks to Ryosuke Nakanish (which if you aren't aware, he composed several J-Pop songs).
With all of that, Kamisama Minarai Himitsu no Cocotama (along with Hirake's 2nd half) is well-done and well-executed (though some can be repetitive at times such as moments where the Cocotamas wag their tails to use magic) and I appreciate the staff behind the show (and the franchise) for all the hard work put into this gem. The show can serve as an one of the inspirations for many generations to come.
