Peace has returned to Honnouji Academy at last, and now that it has served its original purpose, the unique high school is set to be shut down within a month. However, there is still one final event that must take place: the graduation ceremony. As each member of the student council prepares to leave their past selves behind to focus on what they would like to do in the future, Satsuki Kiryuuin struggles to find her own path, having lost her resolve after finally achieving victory.
But just before she is to give her speech to the student body, the ceremony is disrupted by mysterious beings that are identical to the student council members. As Ryuuko Matoi and the Elite Four prepare for battle once more, they quickly discover that the one pulling the strings is an old enemy who has returned to take revenge.
Its Bloody Awesome to see this anime again!! I had such a fun time watching the anime series since It has a very Dynamic Blast of entertainment value which is what I appreciate a lot with kill la kill, Its fearless and crazy at the same time!. As for the KLK special,
This is a special added episode taking place right after the series had left off along with all the existing characters as they send us the KLK viewers their last love letters from Studio Trigger’s definition of an All out humorous Fan-service action-packed anime, unforgiving and Relentless mindless fun.
This was similar to the series except a...little less in depth unfortunately it does have an epic battle sequence involving most of the characters here and there in this special with pretty much similar animation used in the series while also getting to see some sentimental and funny moments of the characters that we love a lot in the first place.
Not to mention for 1 of the supporting characters like Rei Hououmaru who wasn't utilized that much at all in the series gets her time to shine in the spotlight in this as she tries to avenge the death Ragyō Kiryūin also as well as of course the Four Elite members, Ryuko, of course highly eccentric and energetic Mako and my personal favorite Satsuki Kiryūin.
The music deserves a lot of praise as its just Freakin' Fantastic!
The story is very simple, during the aftermath of Ragyo's demise. A graduation ceremony of Honnouji Academy is about to take place, its also becomes apparent that Satsuki has come to the conclusion of laying down her sword along with the empire that her and her followers had control over for as long as she can remember that is until once again yep you guessed it.. troubled starts to brew for the final time putting all the characters into midst of the action once more.
As well as being a special and pretty much a final episode I must admit my expectations wasn't really met with this special however I still enjoyed seeing this. Now I kinda expected a lot more fun screen time with other characters as well which I felt we didn't see enough of. But I am still satisfied with seeing this to the end as it serves a great reminder of some of those crazy ass moments in the series as a whole.
Despite enjoying Kill la Kill, I didn't enjoy this special as much as I thought I would have. I'm not quite sure why I originally thought the special was going to be great and something worthwhile to anticipate, but somehow my eagerness and high expectations left me feeling a bit disappointed.
The story behind the special is a pretty average one. There's not much going for it, given that it's essentially an episode equivalent of filler that tries to throw a lot at you in a short period of time. Actually, that's exactly what this special is. While graduating Honnouji Academy was ultimately the main...focus of this special, I felt that there wasn't as much closure as I would have liked, or rather, it wasn't handled in a very satisfying fashion; there was basically a sentence saying "-insert character name- is going to do this now." It felt half-assed and inadequate. I enjoy seeing the characters I've grown fond of reappear on the screen as much as the next person, but sometimes it just isn't enough to say that an OVA or special is actually good material. This realistically isn't. Regardless of this, the special is still very watchable. I recommend that you do watch it at some point if you enjoyed Kill la Kill, but there should be no feeling of urgency to do so.
In regards to characters, we’re able to see the same familiar faces of the series pop up once again. However, we also get a bit of development and fleshing out of Hououmaru, Rei, Kiryuuin Ragyou's secretary. In addition to that, we also are also shown a good level of maturity and growing up from the cast as a whole.
The art, animation, and sound align very similarly with the original airing series. The same feeling of wacky, over-the-top craziness still holds, which is one of the pivotal qualities the series regularly maintained. The OST from the series is used once again, which isn't a bad thing whatsoever, and it has fluid visuals. Everything looks and sounds just as great as one would expect.
While the special didn't meet my expectations, I did still enjoy the extra 25 minutes of material and its small bit of closure. A little extra something is certainly better than having nothing.
If this had been the actual ending to Kill La Kill, it wouldn't have nearly the status it does in the anime world today. This was an episode that didn't need to happen at all. Basically, this is the anime's "graduation episode" where everyone moves on after the defeat of Ragyou Kiryuin. But, ultimately it falls flat.
The main problem with this special is that it's just nonsensical. The logic is flawed in almost every way and the special plays as one big Deus Ex Machina after another. The remnants of the life fibers re-emerge and attack the students,...who fight them in a pretty meaningless battle. During this period, things just keep happening to save the Ryuuko and the Devas from the Fibers as Trigger does their usual final "Huge Boss" antics. But, while spectacular in the main series, it just falls empty and flat and the defining moment of the fight was so incredibly corny, I almost actually face palmed.
The only good thing about seeing this, is that I got to see the cast of Kill La Kill again after several years. It provided a nice feeling since the main series is one of my favorites. But, other than that, this was a second ending that really didn't need to happen.
Watch this if you're a hardcore KLK fan. If not, just stick to the main series. This kind of mediocrity does it a disservice.
