TheBlue Falcon isCaptain Falcon's vehicle in theF-Zero series. It is one of the most well-rounded vehicles in the racing tour. The Blue Falcon's machine number was originally111,[1] but inF-Zero X, the number had changed to07. No explanation for this was ever given, although "111" is binary for 7. During an interview withMr. Zero, the race announcer, inF-Zero GX Captain Falcon commented that if he wins the Grand Prix, he will use the prize money to build a new machine called the "Neo Blue Falcon".[2] Thanks to the efforts of its pilot, even a novice could perform well in this vehicle. With a well-defended body, average boost power and good grip, the Blue Falcon is well balanced and impeccably tuned. Captain Falcon knows every inch of his machine and can make it perform as though it has the best ratings.[3] In the animeF-Zero: GP Legend, the Blue Falcon has only one thruster instead of four. InF-Zero: Maximum Velocity, a second version of the Blue Falcon, known asFalcon MK-2, can be unlocked. This vehicle is piloted byKent Akechi, who claims to be the son of Captain Falcon.

Despite being called theBlue Falcon GT, the logo remains unchanged from the previous version of the machine.

Other appearances

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

The Blue Falcon appearing as Captain Falcon's Final Smash.

InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl, theBlue Falcon appears as Captain Falcon'sFinal Smash, which can be executed once he has broken aSmash Ball. Upon activation, the Blue Falcon will fly by quickly in front of Captain Falcon. If any opponents are hit by the Blue Falcon, they are launched onto the Port Town race track. The Blue Falcon will race down the track at high speeds, and ram into the opponents, sending them flying. At high percentages, the attack is most likely a one-hit K.O.

Captain Falcon also arrives in the Blue Falcon in the beginning of a Brawl. It swerves round to the stage and Captain Falcon jumps out. Then, the canopy closes and it races off. This also happens inSuper Smash Bros. on Nintendo 64.

In Brawl, Captain Falcon's on-screen appearance in theSubspace Emissary also involves the Blue Falcon. AfterCaptain Olimar and hisPikmin got terrified by a giant R.O.B., a red Pikmin points out the Blue Falcon, which opens its canopy and Captain Falcon jumps off (or gets ejected) andFalcon Punches the R.O.B.. The Blue Falcon does not appear in any place after this.

This is one technique that's an utter mystery.Clear All-Star Mode as Captain Falcon.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U

In both versions of the game, the Blue Falcon appears as part of Captain Falcon's Final Smash once more. The Blue Falcon also appears in the 16-bit form at the Mute City stage for the 3DS version.

Mario Kart series

Baby Mario in the Blue Falcon
Main article:Blue Falcon

The Blue Falcon also appears as an unlockable lightweight kart inMario Kart Wii, being unlocked after winning the Mirror Lightning Cup, resembling the appearance fromF-Zero GX. It has the best speed out of the Small character class, average acceleration and drifting, but poor stats everywhere else. Each character's color scheme is unique, but only Baby Mario, Toad, or the Male Mii will make the Blue Falcon identical to that of Captain Falcon's.

It reappears as a downloadable kart part forMario Kart 8, being part of the first of two DLC packs for the game, released in November 2014[4]. InMario Kart 8 Deluxe, it is randomly unlocked by collecting coins.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

InThe Super Mario Bros. Movie, the Blue Falcon appears on a poster pinned up inMario's room situated above his bed recreating the cover art of the originalF-Zero albeit with a different name and without the airbornFire Stingray in the background.

Design and namesake

Design

The design of the Blue Falcon is fairly straightforward while having some very unique traits. The machine is comprised of a streamlined nose which contains the cockpit. Behind it is where all the primary components are found. It's wider than the front, has two vertical wings that have red and white striped turning fins, a brown stripe running across the very front end of the wide part, two yellow cooling fans on the front ends and a rear fan on the tail end. Underneath the wide area are uniquely designed hover vents. While not seen in-game, the Blue Falcon is shown to have landing gear during the story mode ofGX.

Name

The name is a combination of blue, a visible color of the spectrum (and the vehicle's go to color) and falcon, a bird-of-prey and part of the driver—Captain Falcon's—name.

Correlation

As the machine suggests, the primary color is blue. The nose of the machine and the rear wings match that of a falcon's bodily construct. The three legs of landing gear reflect on a falcon's three claw talon.

Differences between games

The Blue Falcon stays relatively the same going from game to game but has some subtle changes. Originally, the Blue Falcon's cockpit was a light green but changed to a more common window color. There used to be white and yellow arrows and stripes on the outer sides of the wings. The turning fins originally had pink stripes as opposed to red. Unique to the originalF-Zero were two extra engines near the cockpit to aid it in turning. In its appearances in the GameBoy Advance games, the brown stripe turns yellow and the turning fins have fewer stripes.
