A 50/50 joint venture between CBS Inc. and Sony Japan that was formed onMarch 11, 1968 asCBS/Sony Records Inc., the company was renamedCBS/Sony Inc. in 1973, and 10 years later, to mark its 15th anniversary, was renamed once again in 1983 asCBS/Sony Group Inc. InJanuary 1988, after Sony had acquiredCBS Records Inc. and the half of CBS/Sony Group Inc. it did not already own, the label became a wholly-owned Sony subsidiary, and theCBS/Sony imprint eventually was renamedSony Records (owned today bySony Music Records Inc., a unit ofSony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc.) in April 1991.
