At Disney'sD23 Expo, it was announced that there would be a fourthDescendantsmovie.Descendants was a Disney Channel original movie musical that came out in 2015. It was dolled by a sequel in 2017 and another in 2019. Made in the same vein as spiritual predecessorsCamp Rock andHigh School Musical, like the latter, the first three films were made by choreographer and director Kenny Ortega.

The series follows the offspring of the various Disney heroes and villains. When Ben (Mitchell Hope), the son of Beauty (Keegan Connor Tracy) and the Beast (Dan Payne), declares that the children of notorious villains, Mal (Dove Cameron), Evie (Sofia Carson), Jay (Bobbboo Stewart), and Carlos (Cameron Boyce) should receive the opportunity to prove themselves better than there parents.

Said parents, Maleficent (Kristin Chenoweth), Evil Queen (Kathy Najimy), Jafar (Maz Jobrani), and Cruella De Vil (Wendy Raquel Robinson), see an opportunity to get revenge, only for their offsprings to decide not to follow in there footsteps. In fact, Ben and Mal end up falling in love with one another. Of course, happily ever after doesn’t happen right away, as the next two sequels show.

The fourth film will see the return of Uma (China Anne McClain), who was a character who was originally introduced inDescendants 2. The daughter of Ursula (Whoopi Goldberg), Uma served as the main villain of the film before turning over a new leaf inDescendants 3. In this latest installment, she will be joined by Red (Kylie Cantrall), the daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe (Dara Renée), the daughter of Cinderella.

Cameron Boyce: Gone, But Not Forgotten

Cameron Boyce, Grown Ups & Disney Channel Star, Dies at 20

While this may be a sequel to the first three films, several of the principal actors will not be returning. Dove, Sofia, and Boobo have all decided to sit this one out. Previously Dove, who played the main character in the first three films, was asked byPop Buzz if she would do aDescendants reboot, and she had this to say:

"I'm gonna say no, because I don't think it would be the same without the whole original cast. It would just be different now, and also, we did it. We told a full story. We completed it."

One of the stars of the originalDescendants trilogy, actor Cameron Boyce, passed away in 2019 at the age of due to an epileptic seizure in his sleep. Besides his work on the Disney channel sitcom Jessie, he also appeared in the twoGrown Ups movies. Funnily enough, Adam Sandler, the star ofGrown Ups, also had a guest spot onJessie.

So, as a result, some fans are taking issue with how Disney is going ahead with anotherDescendants movie without him. Twitter user treystar679 writes, "The death of Cameron Boyce makes aDescendants 4 wrong on so many levels," while UbrokenFate added: "This has to be a joke…why?? There is noDescendants without Cameron Boyce."

It remains to be seen how and if the new film will address Boyce's death.
