A bit late to comment, but comment I shall! I was excited to try this one ever since I downloaded it, and the excitement paid off! The approach, pacing, ambience, it's all executed flawlessly, and the aesthetic truly gives it the vibe of an N64 Zelda-esque title, capturing the feelings that many of us had playing the game in our younger years. 10/10, I'll definitely be looking to play more games from Modus Interactive in the future.
Blind playthrough linked below, alongside a couple other short horror games from a collection that seems to have another of your titles in it.
You guys need to release a soundtrack to this. Your composer absolutely knocked it out of the park.
EDIT: I saw that the OST of this game was posted to your official Bandcamp Page. Nice! Isn't there one or two tracks that were missing, though? The song that played during the last segment (when things go to absolute shit) was excellent, too!
That was one of the most unsettling experiences I've had in a while. You have made an absolutely incredible game, the N64 style works incredibly well and the build up of tension as you find the cause of the snow is so effective. I still feel really uncomfortable as I type this, I'm going to be thinking about this game for ages.
This NEEDS to be a full game.
Its short length and abrupt downer ending just left me wanting more.
It NEEDS to be made into a full game. I mean, it could be like Majora's Mask meets Alone in the Dark 1 meets The Thing. The moment I played this bad boy, I KNEW it needs so desperately to be extended into a full-length adventure. What becomes of Basidia after the infection begins? How do you fight back against such a thing? How does the story end? Is it a full Lovecraftian affair, or is there a glimmer of hope at the end? The questions race through my mind, and I hope to god the developer of this game sees the same potential in Snow of Basidia that I do.
EDIT: And what do you know? It is! The Winds of Basidia. Can't wait to see how this plays out.
Beautiful work.
I was never a fan of any of the Zelda games but, the graphical style lends itself well to atmospheric spooks~.
Something about graphics like this are really interesting to look at. Like the blood being a few circles with a trail behind them. I don't know how to describe it... Or when the (spoilers) grows out of the guys (spoilers). I think some people refer to this as "graphical fidelity isn't 100% realistic, so your mind fills in the gaps and makes it scarier." But, I'm not sure that's what it is exactly.
Something about seeing these simple models undergo horrifying changes and coughing up big, circles of blood feels ominous. I highly dig this. I hope you pursue this idea further and maybe expand it into a bigger game that you can put a price tag on~.
Regardless of what you do, best wishes.
