The devastating storms at the end of July in the Tennengau district caused considerable damage to infrastructure such as federal roads and bridges in several sections. As part of a further deployment by the Austrian Armed Forces, 45 soldiers from the pioneer construction company of Salzburg Pioneer Battalion 2 built a “Bailey Bridge” on the site of the Kurhaus Bridge, which had also been destroyed in the municipality of Abtenau. In the period from 19 August to 23 August, the Bailey Bridge was built over a length of 40 meters with a load-bearing capacity of 26 tons in a construction period of just five days in order to re-establish traffic connections in the district.

On August 26, the bridge was inspected by Werner Roth, a representative of the state of Salzburg. This tested the load-bearing capacity and proper construction of the Bailey Bridge for civilian use. This was followed by a small ceremony at which the bridge was ceremoniously handed over to the municipality of Abtenau for use and approval. Once again, the Salzburg Pioneers of the Austrian Armed Forces proved that they are there for the population of the province of Salzburg in crisis situations in accordance with the motto “protection and assistance”.
