Party Fun Pirate (known asPop-Up Pirate in European regions) is a party game released solely for theWiiWare service, and could be purchased for 500 Wii Points. The game first released in Japan on November 25, 2008, with Europe and North America receiving the game the following year. It was developed by Tose and is a video game adaption of the popular luck-based children's toyPop-Up Pirate produced by Takara Tomy.

Gameplay

The game's main mode "Pop-Up Party" follows the rules of the original toy and revolves around 2-4 players taking turns placing multi-colored swords into a barrel housing Pirate Pete or a selected Mii character once unlocked. The specific slot that launches the pirate out of the barrel is randomized and changes each game, and the player who inserts a sword into the slot is eliminated. The player also has the option to play against up to 3 computer players.

A secondary mode known as "Pop-Up Logic" is designed as a single player experience that plays similarly toMinesweeper where there are several slots to avoid with each inserted slot being labeled with a number to give an indication of how many rogue spaces are near it.

Mii usage

Miis can be unlocked after completing a small number of Pop-Up Party and Pop-Up Logic games, and can optionally be used inside the barrel to replace Pirate Pete. Miis use the same body model as Pirate Pete and use the same voice clips as him; albeit sped up regardless of the Mii's gender. Miis stored onto a Wii Remote can also be selected. Additionally, the body model does not change skin tones.

Trivia

  • Consistently switching Miis within the character select menu will cause the game to render a headless Mii in the barrel. If selected, the game will choose Pirate Pete's model with sped-up Mii voice clips.
  • A minigame version ofPop-Up Pirate appears inJinsei Game Wii andJinsei Game Wii EX.
