Microsoft Drive Optimizer (formerlyDisk Defragmenter) is a utility inMicrosoft Windows designed to increase data access by rearranging files stored on a disk to occupy contiguous storage locations, a technique known asdefragmentation. The application was first officially shipped withWindows 95.
FromWindows 8 onwards, the program was renamed to Microsoft Drive Optimizer, with some references changed to sayDefragment and Optimize Drives or simplyOptimize Drives.
