Windows NT 5.0 was an early working title for the alpha and early beta versions of what becameWindows 2000.
Alpha and beta versions[]
Windows NT 5.0 was released as an alpha version in 1996, a beta 1 version in 1997, beta 2 version in 1998, and beta 3 version in 1999. It was planned as an upgrade ofWindows NT 4.0. AService Pack code named "Asteroid" had also been planned for release in the 4th quarter of 1999, but did not happen.[1]
