Derek Denny-Brown is an American software developer, formerly with theMicrosoft Corporation. He is credited with the development of both theMSXMLXML processing engine, as well as theXMLHTTPActiveX Control, providing functionality that has since been followed up by theMozilla Foundation,Safari web browser, andOpera web browser, and has become the basis of a recent draft proposal by the W3C to standardize against.
Denny-Brown worked for Steven Newcomb's TechnoTeacher company before joining Microsoft. TechnoTeacher's HyMinder engine was a robust implementation of ISO 10744 - Hytime. He briefly assisted with the US Navy MID project (a so-called notional browser language developed as a project managed out of the David Taylor Model Basin - Carderock) while employed by TechnoTeacher. The MID (Metafile for Interactive Documents) precedes XUL and XAML as a markup-based GUI.
