In acknowledgment of the diversity of groups contributing to the Wikimedia movement, theWikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees recognizesmodels of affiliation within the Wikimedia movement –chapters,thematic organizations, anduser groups.

History:

The currentWikimedia affiliation models was developed by theMovement roles project. Development began in 2010 after discussion at theChapters meeting 2010 and wasapproved unanimously by the Board of Trustees on March 31, 2012. TheAffiliations Committee advises and makes recommendations regarding the recognition and existence of Wikimedia movement affiliates.
