This page hosts requests tostewards andglobal renamers for ausername change across the entire Wikimedia network. Please read theinstructions before posting a request.

If you are requesting a merge of a global account with one or more unconnected local accounts as part of finalizing yoursingle unified login (SUL) username, please specify which wikis and accounts you want to merge into your global account. These accounts were typically named "account name~wikiname". Please note that we can only merge a local account into a global account when the global account has no edits on the same wiki as the local account.

Making a request for your own account

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section),or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available.

You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check viaSpecial:CentralAuth.

Private requests

Account renames are not private, once renamed many links from the old username to the new username will be permanently made. The reason submitted on the rename form (Special:GlobalRenameRequest) is private, and only visible by the renamers.Additional information that needs to be made in private may be sent using thisdirect wiki-email interface while logged-in.


Simple rename requests

If your rename request is simple and does not involve usurpation of an existing account or other SUL issues, you have two options:

  1. Use the request form atSpecial:GlobalRenameRequest;or
  2. Submit the request below inthis section.

Please usethis tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications

Please add new requestsat the end of the section. Sections should be titledyour username and requests should be signed by the requesting user.
Please note: Per standard procedure andconsensus, accounts with valid edits are not usurped, and the target account must benotified by renamer at least two weeks before usurpation.

We are sorry to announce thatGlobal User Account Mergesare not possible as the UserMerge extension is incompatible with CentralAuth. As such, we will not accept any request to merge user accounts as it is technically impossible at this moment to do so.
