Biography[]

Son ofBeverly andJack Crusher, Wesley was born on29 July2348. Wesley's father loved him, but Jack realized that hisStarfleet career could mean that he wouldn't always be around as Wesley grew up; when Wesley was 10 weeks old, Jack began recording messages for his son. (TNGepisodes: "Coming of Age", "Family", "Conundrum")

In2354, Wesley's father was killed following a dreadful accident aboard theUSSStargazer. Although the five-year-old boy did not completely understand what was happening, he remembered that Jack's body was brought home by his command officer and friend,CaptainJean-Luc Picard. (TNGepisode &novelization:Encounter at Farpoint;TNGnovel:Reunion)

From an early age, Wesley began to express an aptitude for advanced learning. In2358, 10-year-old Wesley studied every piece of text written by the escape artistBophur the Unholdable, after he observed one of his final acts. (TNGnovel:Balance of Power)

Aboard theEnterprise-D[]

Wesley2364

Crusher in2364.

In2364, Wesley boarded theUSSEnterprise-D with his mother who was assigned as the ship'schief medical officer. He quickly became friends with several of theEnterprise senior staff, includingCommanderWilliam T. Riker,Data, andGeordi La Forge. Initially, Wesley's relationship with Captain Picard was very tense and for some weeks Wesley was barred from thebridge. (TNGepisode: "Encounter at Farpoint")

A few months into the mission, theEnterprise was visited by an unusual being known asThe Traveler, fromTau Alpha C. The Traveler urged Captain Picard to encourage Wesley and make him realize his potential. As a result, Picard promoted Wesley toacting ensign and granted him access to the bridge, as well as posting his application toStarfleet Academy. (TNGepisode: "Where No One Has Gone Before")

A few months later, Wesley took his Academy entrance exam onRelva VII, but failed to gain entry. Wes considered dropping the idea, but Picard changed his mind when he told him about his own failure to enter the Academy on his first try. (TNGepisode: "Coming of Age")

Early in2365, Wes' mother left theEnterprise to take up the position ofHead of Starfleet Medical. Wes was affected by her absence but soon began to adjust to not having her around. On one of his first missions after his mother's departure, Wes joined anaway team toThe Armada, where theEnterprise's personnel were investigating crop failures. After getting to know some of the resident youngsters, he correctly deduced they were responsible and, after a short brawl in which he delivered a black-eye to the boy namedCumin, he convinced them to confess to what they had done. (TNGcomic: "Space Seeds")

Wesley2366

Ensign Wesley Crusher in2366.

Later that year, Wes took his exam onStarbase 515, passed, and was offered a position at the Academy. His entry had to be moved to early2367 when he remained aboard theEnterprise to help locate Commander Riker andDeanna Troi after they were captured by theFerengi. Thanks to his actions, Riker and Troi were rescued, and Picard field-promoted Wesley toensign. (TNGepisodes: "Samaritan Snare", "Ménage à Troi")

Wesley's role of helmsman aboard theEnterprise, despite his civilian status, was disapproved of by some Starfleet officers, includingEdward Jellico. In his time aboard theEnterprise, Wesley gained the nickname "Brain Trust", a name he was not particularly fond of. (NFnovel:House of Cards;TNGnovels:Strike Zone,A Rock and a Hard Place)

Starfleet Academy[]

Despite entering the Academy a few months late, Wesley managed to catch up with all assignment work and managed to make many friends, includingCadetJoshua Albert. On the advice of Captain Picard, Wesley also sought out the Academy groundskeeper,Boothby, who helped him through his early days at the Academy (TNGepisodes: "The Game", "The First Duty")

At the start of his second year at the Academy, Wesley joinedNova Squadron, an Academy flight squad led byNicholas Locarno. Wesley also flew alongside with Joshua Albert andSito Jaxa. In early2368, the squad attempted to perform aKolvoord Starburst maneuver nearTitan, which resulted in all test ships being destroyed, and the death of Cadet Albert. Wesley originally went along with the others, who attempted to bury the incident, but Captain Picard forcefully persuaded him to tell the truth. As a result, Wes was reprimanded but allowed to stay in the Academy. (TNGepisode: "The First Duty")

In2369, Wesley had a relationship with fellow Starfleet cadetKrystyna Peladon. (TNG novel:A Fury Scorned)

Later that year, returned to theEnterprise while on vacation from the Academy. While Wesley was aboard, theEnterprise was sent to the planetMegara to investigateFerengi dealings which had seen them become more advanced, a violation of thePrime Directive. (TNGnovel:Debtors' Planet)

Wesley's roommate at the Academy during2370 wasFred Kimbal, a young man who invented a device that would transform worthless chaseum into valuable latinum. Upon learning of the device, a team of Ferengi marauders kidnapped Wesley, whom they had mistaken for his roommate, and took him with the device to an interplanetary auction. With the help of his formerEnterprise crewmates, Wesley exposed the Ferengi scheme. He was reproved for his involvement with the scheme, but his roommate Fred was expelled for creating the device. Wesley was extremely disillusioned with the shortsightedness of Starfleet, who he felt had failed his roommate. (TNGnovel:Balance of Power)

Over the next year, Wesley became increasingly disillusioned with the Academy, with his grades slipping and his work decreasing. When Wesley returned to theEnterprise for a vacation in mid-2370 he also seemed distant and uninterested in his mother and friends. Shortly after, Wesley encounteredThe Traveler onDorvan V and, after undergoing a spiritual quest, decided to leave Starfleet and conventional space-time to explore with the Traveler. (TNGepisode: "Journey's End")

Wesley's commentary inPICepisode: "Farewell" suggests that being mentored bythe Traveler and beginning to use his own abilities has the effects of manipulating variousalternate reality variations and changes totimelines. Because of this, any and all of his appearances after this might be considered alternate timelines simply by effect of him having presented himself there and interacted withhistory.
Wesley Crusher, 2379

Wesley did return to theprimary universe as it existed at the time to attend thewedding ofWill Riker andDeanna Troi in theyear2379. (TNGmovie:Nemesis)

Inalternate realities, there are differing reasons given for Wesley'sdress uniform at the wedding. In theFirst Splinter timeline, it is mentioned that he was given theclothing as he did not have anything appropriate to wear to the reception. In yet another reality, he had indeed rejoinedStarfleet and was preparing to ship out on theTitan. By all indications, that return touniformed service is incongruous with theprimary universe ofcanon where he remained a Traveler.

The Journey[]

Xwesley

Upon leaving Dorvan V, The Traveler became Wesley's mentor, and was tasked in teaching him about life as a Traveler, the power they wield, and the rules they must abide by. While The Traveler kept a tight reign on what Wesley could initially do, in2373 Wesley altered history by erasing theMaquis, and instead created a short border war between theFederation and theCardassian Union. The original timeline was reinstated when AgentsDulmer andGariff Lucsly from theFederation Department of Temporal Investigations encouraged Wesley to do so. (TNG -Strange New Worlds IIshort story: "Gods, Fate, and Fractals")

First Splinter timeline[]

Around the end of theDominion War, Wesley encounteredJ. R. Rasmussen, a time-traveling researcher for20th century television program,Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Wesley proposed a union between them, and was flatly turned down. (TNG -Strange New Worlds IIshort story: "Research")

In2377, Wesley briefly boarded theUSSEnterprise-E under the guise ofEvan Jackson. During his stay there, he transportedCommanderRiker to a jazz club in1920sIllinois as a thank you for all Riker had done for him. When Riker was returned to theEnterprise, he believed he had been in aholodeck program. (TNG -Strange New Worlds VIIshort story: "Adventures in Jazz and Time")

In2378, Wesley gave advice and assistance to Starfleet CaptainChakotay when Chakotay temporarily possessed the power of theSky Spirits. (VOY -Spirit Walknovel:Enemy of My Enemy)

Later that year, Wesley had learned a lot from The Traveler and, following an observation of a colony world being evacuated fromStarfleet, they returned to Tau Alpha C so that Wesley could be re-born as aTraveler. Before becoming a Traveler, Wesley had to gaze into thePool of Prophecy to undergo the final test. Inside the Pool, he witnessed the destruction of theEnterprise at theRashanar Battle Site. Following this, he left Tau Alpha C and went to theEnterprise to successfully prevent their destruction from the "demon flyer," a shape-shifting vessel from another dimension. (ST -A Time to...novels:A Time to Be Born,A Time to Die)

In late2379, Wesley appeared at the wedding of William Riker and Deanna Troi. Assuming it was a traditionalBetazoid wedding, he appeared nude. Picard found this unacceptable, and gave him a StarfleetLieutenant's uniform to wear to the wedding. In2381, Wesley materialized, this time with clothes, at the wedding of his mother, Beverly Crusher, and Jean Luc Picard. (ST -A Time to...novel:A Time for War, A Time for Peace;TNGnovel:Greater Than the Sum)

In 2384, Wesley witnesses aMachine destroying several star systems, including inhabited ones, by casting them into the black hole Abbadon. He contacts theTravelers for help but they flee, having had many unsuccessful encounters with the Machine in the past. Instead, he turns to theEnterprise-E for help.

Wesley uses his Traveler powers to transport the Enterprise to the location of the Machine. Attempts to communicate with the Machine and even sabotage it fail. After the Enterprise rescues Data from a rogue group of synthetic beings attempting to merge with the Machine, Picard, Data, and Wesley convince the Machine to work with the Travelers and repair the damage to subspace, instead of destroying galaxies as part of its grander legacy. (TNG -Cold Equationsnovel:The Body Electric)

When theFirst Splinter timeline and various other associated splinter realities became a victim ofDevidian attack, multiple versions of Wesley intervened by informing his old crewmates of the situation, helping them identify theoriginal divergence event that caused the timeline splinter, and giving them (and some of theirmirror universe counterparts) support in collapsing their splintered reality to prevent the vulnerability that would have allowed the Devidian victory. (ST -Codanovels:Moments Asunder,The Ashes of Tomorrow,Oblivion's Gate)

Return to Starfleet[]

In at least one reality, Wesley rejoinedStarfleet and offered his abilities as an officer aboard the USSTitan. (TNGnovelization:Nemesis)

Titan Wesley

Wesley briefly served aboard theUSSTitan asassistant chief engineer. On one mission, he helpedsecond officerTuvok defeat an attackingKlingon starship. (TTNmovie:Star Trek: The Tour)

How and why he returned to Starfleet remains unknown. It is also unknown how long he remained. With the preponderance of "alternate Wesleys" that were spawned duringStar Trek: Coda, it remains unclear if Wesley's return to Starfleet aboard theTitan was part of theprimary universe, theFirst Splinter timeline, or anotheralternate reality representing a separate continuity from any others currently described on this wiki.

Further journeys as The Traveler[]

TravelerKore

Wesley and Kore.

Wesley learned much in histime as the Traveler, eventually becoming aware of the Travelers' variousSupervisors assigned to monitor key points inhistory. In theyear2024,Q made an attempt to influence historical changes in order to helpJean-Luc Picard to recover a repressedmemory. Wesley did not directly intervene in the situation, but monitored the influence that Q had onAdam Soong, eventually deleting some of the critical data on acomputer system that Q had infiltrated. Following Picard's return from 2024, Wesley met with his former captain. The two of reminisced about the time they had aboard theEnterprise-D, their friendship with its crew and hope they would meet again. (PICepisode: "Farewell";PIC -Star Trek 400th Issuecomic: "A Matter of Choice")

Wesley later returned to 2024. There, Wesley approached Soong'scloned daughter,Kore and offered her a chance to leave with him and become an apprentice Traveler. (PICepisode: "Farewell")

In2384, Wesley began covertly helping with theUSSVoyager-A's mission to the future, appearing as a giant glowing orb so as not to be identified. Wesley warnedVice AdmiralKathryn Janeway that it wasn't time to go yet, or all would be lost and later that it was time as the former crew of theUSSProtostar accidentally launched themselves through the wormhole. (PRDepisode: "Into the Breach")

After the crew accidentally changed the past, Wesley sent them a message to saveGwyn along with her coordinates and, in a vision, told Gwyn that they all had to stay together. With theInfinity broken, Wesley repaired it for the crew so that they could return toVoyager. (PRDepisodes: "Who Saves the Saviors", "Temporal Mechanics 101")

Wesley covertly communicated withMurf, giving him a message to help the crew find Wesley in a spiral shape nebula. The crew mistakenly believed that it was the missingCaptainChakotay communicating with them. (PRDepisodes: "Temporal Mechanics 101", "Observer's Paradox")

Following Wesley's message, theProtostar crew arrived as he was arguing with the Traveler over his intention to stay and fix the temporal paradox while the rest of the Travelers were fleeing the prime universe, believing it to be a lost cause. Wesley, having trouble thinking in a linear fashion after so long traveling through time and space, explained the situation to the crew and that, having examined billions of possible timelines, he had found only one where the universe wasn't left in eternal pain and it involved the crew's future. As theLoom invaded thetime ziggurat, Wesley used a machine that he had created using theOrb of Time and modifiedBorethtime crystals to locate theProtostar and send the crew andMaj'el there while Wesley sealed the Loom out of the universe for the time being and bought them time. (PRDepisode: "The Devourer of All Things")

Wesley was later captured byAsencia and tortured for temporal technology that Asencia used in her crusade to destroy the Federation. In reality, Wesley allowed himself to be captured in order to manipulate Asencia into building the technology that would be needed to send theProtostar back in time and repair the broken timeline. (PRDepisodes: "Ascension", "Brink")

Wesley was later rescued by theProtostar crew and beamed toVoyager along withIlthuran. However, whileThe Doctor was able to treat his injuries from the torture, it put Wesley's Traveler abilities out of commission for the time being. Although struggling with being a normal human once again, Wesley volunteered for the mission to rescue theProtostar's crew. Janeway helped Wesley with his struggles by reminding him that Wesley was a great Starfleet officer before he was a Traveler, and she needed the Starfleet officer's help, not the Traveler's. Wesley played an instrumental role in the rescue mission even without his powers, using his piloting skills to get the rescue team to the planet and then modifying a tricorder into a remote terminal to remote pilot the ship to pick everyone up. (PRDepisodes: "Brink", "Touch of Grey")

Wesley helped figure out the specifics involving opening the wormhole for theProtostar, only to have the Loom arrive to destroy the universe. With the help ofVoyager, theProtostar crew managed to navigate the ship into the wormhole and send it back in time toTars Lamora, repairing the timeline and ending the paradox. Having chosen to stay onboard and see the mission through, Wesley revealed toDal R'El that the important role that he foresaw for the crew in the galaxy's fate was not fixing the timeline but something that was still to come for them. (PRDepisode: "Ouroboors")

Having regained his Traveler abilities, Wesley later visited his mother for the first time in years and met his little brotherJack for the very first time. (PRDepisode: "Ouroboros")

Other alternate timelines[]

(Myriad Universes -Echoes and Refractionsnovel:Brave New World)

Middle name[]

The entry for Wesley at StarTrek.com establishes his middle name as "Robert", which matches the barely-legible initial "R" given onscreen inTNGepisode: "Conundrum".

Wesley's middle name is given as "Eugene" in theTNGnovel:A Time for War, A Time for Peace, as an homage to Gene Roddenberry's full name "Eugene Wesley Roddenberry". No explanation was given why this work ignored the canon initial "R" seen in "Conundrum", but it might be a reflection of a disruption in history, as that work took place in theFirst Splinter timeline, or it might simply have been an error of some sort.
