TheUSSVerity (alternatively registeredNCC-97000,[1]NCC-97005,[2] orNCC-97001[3]) was a24th centuryFederationstarship, anOdyssey-classstar cruiser inStarfleet service from the2380sdecade. Itscommanding officer wasAdmiralJean-Luc Picard. The ship's mission was to evacuateRomulan worlds from an impendingsupernova. (PIC -Countdowncomic: "Issue 1")
Service history and disposition[]
In2381, the Federation learned that theRomulan Star Empire was threatened by a supernova that could erupt at any time, and offered to save the Romulan people. (PIC -Countdowncomic: "Issue 1")
Originally, theRomulan Affairs division estimated the supernova to occur around theyear2387.Fleet AdmiralVictor Bordson assigned theVerity to lead atask force into Romulanspace.
Jean-Luc Picard, hithertocaptain of theUSSEnterprise-E, was promoted toadmiral and given command of theVerity to lead theRomulan relocation program. CaptainKirsten Clancy had theBajoranrefugee expertLieutenantKoli Jocan assigned to theVerity. Herdiplomatic skill and empathy proved a major boon for the ship's mission. Picard recruited Romulan Affairs analystLieutenant CommanderRaffi Musiker asfirst officer. Their first mission was to visitTavaris IV,Ectis II andInsitor V.
The first relocation mission led to Ectis II in theEctisstarsystem.
The Romulan Star Empire assigned Lieutenant, laterCommander,Tajuth asRomulan liaison officer. His service as aTal Shiaragent was an open secret.
The relocation of RomulanQowat Milat fromInxtis toVashti was celebrated as a major success of the mission. This mission led to the breach and informal dissolution of theRomulan Neutral Zone. In the following years, Vashti became an informal forward operations center of the mission, and was visited frequently by theVerity. Admiral Picard often consultedZani, leader of the Qowat Milat, regardingVerity's assignments.
Around2382-2383, theVerity fleet was tasked with the evacuation ofNimbus III. TheTal Shiar took over the mission, leading to amassacre inParadise City, which became public in the Federation after Lieutenant Koli releasedtricorder records of the event to theFederation News Service. Koli was enraged by Picard's and Starfleet's failure to prevent the massacre, and resigned in protest.
By2385, Admiral Jean-Luc Picard still coordinated evacuation efforts from the USSVerity. TheRomulan Senate had granted the ship the right to operate in Imperial space. Picard remained in touch withGeordi La Forge about the construction ofrelocation ships at theUtopia Planitia Fleet Yards. (PICnovel:The Last Best Hope)

AtYuyat Beta in2385.
Soon after, theVerity traveled toYuyat Beta on orders to evacuate its population of 10,000 Romulans.Major-DomusAthus ordered only Picard and Lt. Commander Musiker, to beam to theplanet. Picard was shocked to learn there was anative population, 4 to 5 million strong. When Picard refused to evacuate just the Romulans,GovernorShiana had Picard and Musiker imprisoned, cutting off theVerity inorbit. (PIC -Countdowncomic: "Issue 1")
After imprisoning Picard and Musiker, Shiana boarded theVerity in an attempt to seize control of the ship. She was foiled by LieutenantNewton. (PIC -Countdowncomic: "Issue 2")
The crew recaptured theVerity. Shiana landed in thebrig but the ship was confronted by aTal ShiarFaeht-classintel warbird operating outside the purview of the Romulansenate. With the help of the ex-Tal Shiar agentZhaban, Admiral Picard regained full control of theVerity, and the Tal Shiar ship was scared off by a pair ofdecloakingD'deridex-classwarships. (PIC -Countdowncomic: "Issue 3")
Following theSynthAttack on Mars on5 April2385, with devastated the planet and the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, the Romulan relocation program was cancelled, and theVerity recalled from Vashti toEarth. Admiral Picard resigned in protest, Commander Musiker was cashiered out of Starfleet, and the remainder of theVerity crew was left distraught by the sudden end of their humanitarian mission. (PICnovel:The Last Best Hope)
