TheSaber class, alternately theSabre class, was a24thcenturyFederationstarship type, alight cruiser class inStarfleet service from the2370sdecade. It was one of the ship classescommissioned in response to theBattle of Wolf 359 and the threat posed by theBorg Collective. (TOSC Issue 56: "Saber Class")

One of the smaller starship designs in service, theSaber had a crew complement of approximately 40 people, with a maximum evacuation limit of 200. (DS9reference:Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual)
Produced atStarbase 1, in orbit aroundEarth, theSaber-class was one of a number of ship construction projects that were expedited after the Federation made disastrousfirst contact with theBorg.[citation needed]

In theDS9 Technical Manual, a typo caused the stats of theNorway-class to be posted again under theSaber listing. Notwithstanding theTechnical Manual, Visual Effects Supervisor David Stipes stated[citation needed] the length of 190.5 is generally used onscreen.Decipher andLast Unicorn Games RPG sources put the length at 160 to 170meters.
