Phaser array

Aphaser array is the name given to a series ofphaser emitters that are placed in strategic locations along astarships hull. Whilephaser banks were commonly used byStarfleet vessels in the23rd century, by the24th century the use of phaser arrays were standard.
Many different types of phaser arrays exist, each with different capabilities and varying levels of effectiveness. TheType-X phaser array was equipped aboard Federation starships in the2350s and2360s. By the2370s, theType-XII phaser array had been developed and installed aboard starships. In the opening months of theDominion War, the crew of theUSSDefiant would place depletedpower cells from the phaser array in the ship'smess hall, as a sign that they would not stop fighting until the war was over. (DS9episode: "Behind the Lines",DS9novelization:...Sacrifice of Angels)
