Appendices[]
Background[]
- ATOS sequel to "The Trouble with Tribbles" was green-lit byGene Roddenberry, but aborted by third-season producerFred FriebergerMA, who disliked that episode.TAS producerD.C. Fontana asked for a sequel for the animated series.
- EnsignHacker was written into the story as a cameo for writerDavid Gerrold.
- The tribbles and Klingons' uniforms were colored pink not as a result ofdirectorHal SutherlandMA's color-blindness, but because of colorist Irv Kaplan's personal preference. He was in charge of ink and paint on the series. (TASreference:The Official Guide to The Animated Series)
- WhenHikaru Sulu observed the approach of theDevisor, theepisode cut to a rare view of what he saw within his helm viewer. The episode also briefly displayed an image of theshuttle bay full of cargo containers.
- Koloth’s ship is named the I.K.S. Devisor in this episode. His ship was identified as theIKSGr'oth in DS9‘s "Trials and Tribble-ations," however. "A Bad Day for Koloth" by David DeLee addresses this inconsistency by explaining that the Gr’oth had to be scuttled, because of the ship's tribble infestation created by Scotty at the end of "The Trouble with Tribbles."
- The backstory of the glommer is filled out in "Excelsior: Forged in Fire". These creatures were created by a Klingon scientist namedNej via genetic engineering.
Novelization[]
- The novel was set a fewdays after theEnterprise escaped fromElysia in "The Time Trap" and referenced bothKor and his vessel, theIKSKlothos, noting that it was not outfitted with a stasis weapon.
- Koloth'sIKSDevisor was identified by name in the script and novelization.
- While buried intribbles, Kirk threw an orange tribble atMontgomery Scott following the joke about little tribbles.
- John Kyle beamed the tribbles over to theDevisor.
