Ledbetter
Ledbetter was a maleHuman who served as aStarfleetofficer in the24th century. As of2357, he held therank ofcaptain, and was assigned ascommanding officer of theUSSYorktown. (TNGnovels:Fortune's Light,Reunion)
Ledbetter had to divert his vessel away from its course just tenhours away fromStarbase 18, to meet adestroyer (unnamed Federation starships) that had just left that samestarbase. The diversion was necessary because theYorktown had accidentally picked up the destroyer'ssecond officer,Lieutenant CommanderWilliam T. Riker. Riker later recalled that theYorktown captain made the sternJean-Luc Picard seem likeFrancis of Assisi by comparison.
Riker was assigned as theYorktownsecond officer twoyears later, and reported to Ledbetter. The first thing Ledbetter asked was if Riker had been hiding out in thecargo bay the entire time. (TNGnovel:Ghost Ship)
Ledbetter was given the nickname "Captain Leadbelly" byLieutenantTeller Conlon. (TNGnovel:Fortune's Light)
