Onreference stardate1/35, Hester petitioned theDeneva Science Review Board to expand the scope of her project beyond their successful molecular re-integration of a protozoan. (TOSreference:Spaceflight Chronology)

TheFederation Council denied her request and shut down the project. Instead of reporting toStarbase 14 for reassignment, the 36-year-old Hester and her teammates took theirtransport to theplanetoidMycena, where they established theMycena outpost and continued working for the next half-century in an attempt to re-materializeHuman test subjects.

The 89-year-old Hester was picked up alone by theUSSEndeavor. However,non-corporeal test subjects had managed to retain some consciousness, blamed her for the project's failures, and murdered the crew of theEndeavor in search of her. She fled aboard theshuttleKepler, but crashed and died on Mycena.

In2273, alanding party from theUSSEnterprise located Hester's body in the wreckage and showed it to the non-corporeal entities.James T. Kirk andHikaru Sulu destroyed the wreckage with overloadedphasers. (TOScomic: "Experiment in Vengeance!")

"Experiment in Vengeance!"usedSFC dates that equated to Hester traveling to Mycena in2198 and dying in2251. Those dates werecanonically invalidated byENTepisode: "Daedalus", which established that ahuman-viable transporter was invented byEmory Erickson in2139, 60 years prior to Hester's research.
