Like the twisted strands ofmutantchromosomes, an insidiousalienconspiracy winds its way through the entireAlpha Quadrant, just as it stretches across severalyears ofStarfleethistory—beginning near the very start ofCaptainPicard'scommand of thestarshipEnterprise!

It is only the first year of the USSEnterprise-D's ongoingmission when a virulent epidemic strikes the populace ofArcharia III, endangering the lives of thousands and provoking acts of mob violence against those believed responsible for the spread of thedisease.
