Deep Space 3 was aFederationStarbase constructed prior to2290 near the border of theKlingon Empire, with the purpose of monitoring the activities of theBreen and other species in Breen space, in the vicinity of theAlpha Quadrant'sBlack Cluster. (TOSnovel:War Dragons;STreference:Star Charts)

History and specifications[]

In 2290, the space station was attacked by combinedAnjiri andNykkus forces, resulting in great damage, with theUSSEnterprise-A andUSSExcelsior taking part in the station's defense. (TOSnovel:War Dragons)

In 2349, theUSSStargazer docked at Deep Space 3. AdmiralAmmerman was assigned there at this time. (TNGnovel:The First Virtue)

By2370, the station was under the command ofAdmiralMarcus Holt. In that year, the station hosted the annual palio, wherein theFerengi were accused of trying to bribe theBreen pilot into throwing the race. Later that year, theUSSHera, commanded byCaptainSilva La Forge, departed Deep Space 3 on a courier mission and disappeared shortly after. (TNGepisode: "Interface")

In2375, Admiral Holt reported making great strides in Federation/Breen relations until the Breen joined theDominion. (Last Unicorn RPGmodule:Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Core Game Book)

In2378,Berlinghoff Rasmussen evaded parole and stole theUSSBonavista from Deep Space 3, making forTalos IV. (DFT -Another Piece of the Actioncomic: "Part 1")

Later in that year, theUSSFreeman was unable to detect Deep Space 3, finding an anomaly destroying local space-time in that region of space and requested permission to investigate. (DFT -No Old Warriorscomic: "Part 3")

First splinter timeline[]

By2381, Deep Space 3 was under the command ofCommanderGong. DS3 was the location of a field office of theStarfleet Corps of Engineers, directed byLieutenant CommanderKareem Mussad. Shortly after theBorg Invasion of 2381, Deep Space 3 became a central research facility for "Project Reassimilation", a classified project to study deactivatedBorg technology and attempt to adapt it forStarfleet use.
