Enterprise class ortho
TheEnterprise-class (orEnterprise-subclass, also known as theConstitution II-class) was a variant of theConstitution-classheavy cruisers which entered service in the late23rd century. (FASA RPGmodules:Federation Ship Recognition Manual,Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual;STvideo games:Starfleet Command,Klingon Academy;STreference:Spaceflight Chronology)

History and specifications[]

Specifications[]

The style hull seen on theEnterprise class was already in use onSoyuz-class ships like the theUSSCollins, by theyear2265. (TOS -Spock: Reflectionscomic: "Issue 3")

Thefive-year mission of theConstitution-class shipUSSEnterprise inspired some of the technological upgrades included in therefit, and theEnterprise had the honor to be the firstConstitution class starship to receive those upgrades. (ST -DTInovel:Forgotten History)

The refit lasted a little over two years, from2270 to2273. (TOSmovie:The Motion Picture,TOSnovel:Ex Machina)

In themirror universe, theTerran Empire also chose theImperial Starfleetflagship, theISSEnterprise, as the first ship to be refitted to the new configuration. (ST -Mirror Universenovel:The Sorrows of Empire)

ByReference stardate 2/2802Starfleet was far enough in its experimentations withtranswarp technology that it decided to refit 50 Enterprise-class heavy cruisers with transwarp engines when it felt the need for a support vessel capable of both exploration and combat, aside from the different propulsion metod the refitted vessels were also equipped with 2 additional aft torpedo launchers. TheUSS Valiant was the first vessel of this class to be refitted to these specification. (FASA RPGmodule:Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual)

By2409, theConstitution-class refit was deemed a middlingcruiser, andofficers rankedlieutenant commander or higher were able to command one. Starfleet launched sister ship classes in the2390sdecade, namely theExcalibur- andVesper-class cruisers. Later in2409, a more advancedretrofit variant entered service, theExeter-class. (STO -Klingon Warmission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Phaser banks andphoton torpedolaunchers were standard equipment on these ships. The saucer, nacelles, pylons and hull were interchangeable withExcalibur-,Exeter- andVesper-class starships. (STO -Klingon Warmission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Livery[]

In the 25th century, the design of theEnterprise-class advanced escort allowed itscommanding officer to choose from different designs of livery, which could be modified further atstarbases. These options were designated Type 1-6, 8, 8b and Veteran. (STO -Klingon Warmission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Furthermore, the installation ofdeflector shields from specific factions modified the hull appearance, including shields from theReman Resistance, theBreen Confederacy and theDominion. (STOmissions: "Coliseum", "Cold Storage", "Boldly They Rode")
