History and specifics[]

Throughout much of the24th century it wasoccupied by theCardassian Union. FollowingCardassian withdrawal in2369, the planet became affiliated with theUnited Federation of Planets, eventually becoming amember world.
Bajor is aclass M planet, theseventh planet inorbit of theBajoranstarsystem in thespace ofthe galaxy'sAlpha Quadrant, located near theBajoran wormhole and theDenorios Belt. Itscapital city wasAshalla. (DS9 -Mission Gammanovel:Twilight)
Bajor had at least five moons, includingEndalla, the innermost moon, followed byDerna,Penraddo,Jeraddo and the outermost moonBaraddo. (DS9episodes: "Progress", "Image in the Sand";DS9novel:The Fall of Terok Nor)
Unlike the planetEarth, Bajoran days last 26 hours. (TOSnovel:Captain's Peril)
Sometimes the planet was referred to by the nameBajora. (TNGcomic: "Bridges")
History[]
- "The Land and the People are One."
- —Ancient Bajoran proverb. (DS9episode: "The Storyteller")
The Bajoran archaeological record dated back to about 28,000 BCE (TNGnovel:The Buried Age)
In the15th century, Bajor's level of technology was analogous to that ofEarth in the23rd century. (TTNnovel:Sword of Damocles)
Bajor had at least one extrasolarcolony,Pillagra, which ultimately madefirst contact with theFederation (in the form ofCaptainJames T. Kirk'sUSSEnterprise) in2270. (TOSnovel:Allegiance in Exile)
First official contact with theCardassian Union took place in2318, although a small number of traders, such asKubus Oak were already well known to them. Soon after, many members of theOralian Way moved to Bajor to seek refuge from theCardassian Central Command. Over the next decade however, the Central Command's presence and influence on Bajor increased to the point that by2328, they had become an invasive force, and had occupied the planet as an annexed world of the Union. (TLE -Terok Nornovel:Day of the Vipers)
Shortly after the Cardassian withdrawal, theBajoran Provisional Government petitioned theUnited Federation of Planets for relief efforts. The Cardassian mining station,Terok Nor, was placed into the custodianship ofStarfleet, who renamed the stationDeep Space 9. (DS9episode &novelization:Emissary)
Agrobiology camps were set up on Bajor in the years following the Cardassian withdrawal to help theBajorans learn how to live off their ravagedplanet, with the goal of making the world as fertile as it was before the environmental damage of the Cardassianmining operations. In late2371 aFederation agrobiology camp on Bajor was the scene of a dramatic showdown when a secretObsidian Order strike team landed nearby to recover atemporal disruptor that was sealed in a nearby mine. Thechronitonsubatomic particle flux from the released temporal device caused ripples intime that caused severalalternate timelines to form, as well as a massiveradiation release that caused sickness across the camp. (DS9comic: "No Time Like the Present")
Bajor was the center of events during theDominion War (2373-2375) due to its proximity to theBajoran wormhole, theDominion's only pipeline for troops and material.
The Bajoran sector was temporarily occupied by the forces of the Dominion andCardassia in the years2373 and2374 but Bajor itself was left alone due to the nonaggression pact with the Dominion. (DS9episode: "Call to Arms")
The treaty ending the war with the Dominion was signed in Bajoran space, on stationDeep Space 9, in late2375.
Soon after,Benjamin Sisko, theEmissary of the Prophets, stoppedSkrain Dukat andWinn Adami from releasing thePah-wraith and destroying Bajor. (DS9episode: "What You Leave Behind")
Alternate timelines[]
First Splinter timeline[]
In theFirst Splinter timeline, Bajor joined theUnited Federation of Planets on29 September,2376. (DS9novel:Unity)
In2377, Bajor was threatened with destruction by theAscendants. AnIsolytic subspace weapon was detonated near the moonEndalla, destroying the Ascendant fleet and saving the planet. (DS9novel:Ascendance)
During theBorg Invasion of 2381, there were concerns theBorg would target Bajor; however, no such attack took place, and Bajor was left alone. (ST -Destinynovel:Lost Souls)
Other alternate timelines[]
In analternate timeline in which Captain Sisko became trapped in a subspace field in2372, Bajor took the Emissary's apparent death as a sign from theProphets that the Federation would be unable to protect the Bajoran people from theKlingon Empire. Consequently, the Bajoran government entered into a mutual defence pact with the Cardassian Union in2373. (DS9episode: "The Visitor")
In analternate reality, Bajor had overthrown the Cardassian Union prior to2370 and became increasingly aggressive towards the Federation. (TNGepisode: "Parallels")
In another alternate reality, theKlingon Empire had conquered most of the Alpha andBeta Quadrants prior to2380. Once the conquest of Bajor was complete, it planned to invade theGamma Quadrant through the wormhole. (TNGnovel:Q & A)
In addition to its normalparallel universe versions, Bajor also had a counterpart in theantimatter universe. WhenBenjamin Sisko, now one of theProphets, used his abilities to free both counterparts of the scientistLazarus from their eternal combat, the positive matter Lazarus was deposited on matter-Bajor, and the antimatter Lazarus was placed on the antimatter universe's version of the planet. (TOS -Strange New Worlds 10short story: "Reborn")
