Approximately a week after visiting theGaia system, theUSSDefiant finds the wreck of theColumbia (NX-02), which had been missing for over 200 years, on a planet in theGamma Quadrant. The crew in the wreck feel ill at ease, withKira Nerys suggesting aborhyas inhabits the ship. Efforts to salvage theColumbia are interrupted by the arrival of twoJem'Hadar attack vessels, and as theDominion War breaks out shortly after, the operation is postponed indefinitely.
