Gods of Night is the firstnovel in the crossover trilogyStar Trek: Destiny. The book features the crews of theUSSEnterprise-E fromStar Trek: The Next Generation, theUSSTitan ofStar Trek: Titan, and introduces theUSSAventine, commanded byEzri Dax ofStar Trek: Deep Space Nine, as they seek to find a way to stop theBorg Invasion begun in epilogue of the precedingTNG novelGreater Than the Sum. The book also features the crew of the22nd century starshipColumbia fromStar Trek: Enterprise, who encounter theCaeliar; a hyper-advanced alien race who play a major role in the trilogy.

Approximately a week after visiting theGaia system, theUSSDefiant finds the wreck of theColumbia (NX-02), which had been missing for over 200 years, on a planet in theGamma Quadrant. The crew in the wreck feel ill at ease, withKira Nerys suggesting aborhyas inhabits the ship.
