Leslie Hope (born6 May1965; age 60) is a Canadian actress and director who playedKira Meru in theStar Trek: Deep Space Ninesixth season episode "Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night". She also directed theStar Trek: Strange New Worldsfirst season episode "Ghosts of Illyria".

Along withAndrew Robinson,Larry Dobkin,Richard Compton,Rainn Wilson, andLea Thompson, she is one of the six non-series regulars who both appeared in and directedStar Trek.

A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and a 1982 graduate of St. Michael's University School in Victoria, British Columbia, she is most recognized for playing Jack Bauer's wife, Teri, in the first season of24. In 2003, Hope and her24 castmates – includingJude Ciccolella,Michelle Forbes, andPenny Johnson – were nominated as Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

Hope was initially aiming to become a lawyer, but turned to acting while attending school in Victoria. When her school was used as a filming location for a comedy calledUps & Downs, Hope won a part in the film. A crew member on the show introduced Hope to Academy Award-nominated filmmakerJohn Cassavettes, who later cast Hope inLove Streams (1984).Star Trek: The Next Generation guest actorSeymour Cassel was one of the stars of this film.

Later that year, Hope became a regular onNBC'sBerrenger's, which aired in early 1985. Although this series was pulled after only eleven episodes, Hope soon won a recurring role as Linda Martin onCBS'Knots Landing. In 1988, she appeared inWar and Remembrance, featuringIan Abercrombie,Granville Ames,Steven Berkoff,Peter Dennis,Lawrence Dobkin,Walker Edmiston,Bruce French,Grainger Hines,Paul Lambert,Richard Lineback,Byron Morrow,Glenn Morshower,George Murdock,Charles Napier,John Rhys-Davies, andWilliam Schallert.

Hope's other TV credits include one-time appearances onHunter (1987, withBruce Davison andFranc Luz),seaQuest DSV (1994, withRosalind Ingledew andMarco Sanchez),Party of Five (1994, withScott Grimes),Vengeance Unlimited (1999, withJames Avery,Jennifer Hetrick,Ken Jenkins,Clyde Kusatsu,Raphael Sbarge, andMichael Buchman Silver),Judging Amy (2000, withBrad Blaisdell andCharles Emmett), and the first episode ofUPN'sLevel 9 (2000, withWillie Garson andJ. Patrick McCormack). Other guest spots include episodes ofHouse (starringJennifer Morrison),Eyes (withGregg Henry andRick Worthy), andCSI: Miami (withMichael Welch).

In addition, Hope appeared in two episodes ofChicago Hope (1998 and 1999, starringJayne Brook, withEllen Bry,Boris Krutonog, andGail Strickland) and in a two-parter on CBS'The District (2001, starringLynne Thigpen andRoger Aaron Brown, withJonathan Banks,Richard Fancy,Cliff DeYoung andAnnie O'Donnell). She was also a regular onRoboCop: Prime Directives, which aired in January 2001. She later starred in the 2003-04 seriesLine of Fire and had a recurring role onEverwood in 2006, working withStephanie Niznik. She also recurred onCommander in Chief as Attorney General Melanie Blackston, co-starringRonny Cox,Elizabeth Dennehy,Eric Pierpoint, andTony Plana. She also starred inRunaway, and had a recurring role as Kristina Frye onThe Mentalist.

Hope has starred in a number of television projects for the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Company), includingHuman Cargo (2004). More recently, she co-starred withJames T. Kirk actorWilliam Shatner in CBC'sEverest '82 (2008).

Aside from her many television projects, Hope has starred in several feature films. Some of her more notable film work includeIt Takes Two (1988, co-starringBill Bolender),Talk Radio (1988, withZach Grenier),Men at Work (1990, withGeoffrey Blake andJohn Putch),Doppelganger (1993, co-starringDennis Christopher,Sally Kellerman,Scott Lawrence,Dan Shor, andSean Whalen), andSweet Killing (co-starringF. Murray Abraham). She also played the lead role inParis, France (1993).

Hope co-starred withJohn de Lancie,John Glover, andGeorge D. Wallace in the direct-to-video thrillerSchemes. Her more recent film credits includeShadow Builder (1998, withTony Todd), 1999'sWater Damage (withJohn Neville andDean Stockwell),Bruiser (2000, withPeter Mensah),Dragonfly (2002, starringJoe Morton andKathy Bates, withSusanna Thompson,Casey Biggs,Heidi Swedberg,Samantha Smith andGillian Vigman),Never Back Down (2008), andFormosa Betrayed (2009, withTzi Ma).

Hope guest starred inThe Strain and appeared inCrimson Peak (2015, withDoug Jones). She appeared in a season nine episode of "Murdoch Mysteries" (as did William Shatner, though not the same episode). She also played SECNAV Sarah Porter onNCIS andNCIS: New Orleans. Hope also directed three episodes from the second and third seasons ofNetflix'Lost in Space.
