She was then in thesciences division, and on duty for theEnterprise's involvement in theBattle of Sector 001 in2373. She was one of the officers on the bridge while the Borg began toassimilate the ship and worked on weapons modifications under the supervision ofDoctorBeverly Crusher. (Star Trek: First Contact)

Jae was played by regularTNG background actressTracee Lee Cocco. She was generally seen at theenvironment station on thebridge, although she also made frequent appearances in main engineering, thecorridors, and Ten Forward. She seemed to be very comfortable with both Captain Picard and Commander Riker; she sat close to Picard in "Schisms" and, in "Inheritance", Riker had his arm around the back of her chair during Data and DoctorTainer's concert.

Cocco's official site[1] claims the character was named "Jae", and this is maintained here, although no official production source has named the character. In an interview on Trek FM's Earl Grey podcast, Cocco stated the name was created accidentally by actorJonathan Frakes, who was scripted to address her as "lieutenant j.g." (junior grade), but left out the last initial. The part she played in the "Unification" two-parter was referred to inJeri Taylor'snovelization ofUnification with the name "Gretchen Naylor (β)", although the description of the character didn't quite match Cocco's appearance.

Jae's name appears on an autograph card released byRittenhouse Archives.
